What happens at Tarrowmere

We are a small hospital by design. Planned care, minor injuries and recovery happen here. Emergencies and major surgery happen at the larger regional hospital.

Minor injuries unit

Walk-in care from nurses for cuts, sprains, small burns and suspected simple fractures, with X-ray on site.

Outpatient clinics

Visiting consultants and specialist nurses hold clinics here so that you can be seen nearer home.

X-ray and ultrasound

Imaging by appointment, or on the day if the minor injuries unit sends you.

Blood tests

A phlebotomy room with booked slots for tests your doctor or clinic has asked for.

Inpatient wards

Elder and Rowan wards care for people recovering after a stay at a larger hospital, before they go home.

Therapy and rehabilitation

Physiotherapy and occupational therapy for people on the wards and for outpatients.

Your outpatient appointment

Most clinic visits take under an hour, though some clinics run longer. Your letter tells you if yours includes a test.

Questions

Do I need an appointment for the minor injuries unit?

No. Walk in during opening hours. Waiting times vary, and people are seen in order of need.

What can the unit not treat?

Chest pain, serious head injuries, severe bleeding, breathing problems and signs of a stroke need the emergency number, not the unit. If you are unsure, phone us.

When can I visit the wards?

Every day from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Please check with the ward before bringing young children or arriving outside those times.

Where do I park?

The car park is off Hospital Road, with step-free bays next to the main entrance and a drop-off point by the east entrance.

How do I change an outpatient appointment?

Phone the number on your letter. Please give us as much notice as you can, so that the slot can go to someone else.

Is this an emergency department?

No. We do not have one. If someone is seriously ill or injured, call your local emergency number.
