The touchscreen smart brush

Oclean is the 2016 Shenzhen brand that put a colour touchscreen on a toothbrush — born inside Xiaomi’s ecosystem and independent since around 2020.

Oclean follows Burst as the round’s smart-brush node — a Shenzhen brand that put a colour touchscreen on a toothbrush handle, began inside Xiaomi’s ecosystem, and has run independently since around 2020. Its answer to a round about who owns the brushes and what the claims mean is a Chinese-independent one: a former ecosystem brand, now its own company, competing on a maglev motor and an app, its output claims attributed.

Its identity is the touchscreen smart brush. The touchscreen handle, the former-Xiaomi-ecosystem origin and the independence are the story here. Screen on the handle. The touchscreen smart brush.

(Honest notes, so the founding, the ownership and the claims are framed accurately, with a Xiaomi nuance and one confusion avoided. Oclean sells smart sonic toothbrushes as its heroes — the X series with a colour touchscreen and a maglev motor, plus water flossers; we report its language as the brand’s own. On origin: Oclean was founded in May 2016 in Shenzhen, its founders reported as a group including a French entrepreneur, which we treat as reported since they are not on the company’s own page. On the Xiaomi nuance: Oclean launched as a Xiaomi ecological-chain brand, meaning Xiaomi-invested and independently operated rather than a Xiaomi subsidiary, and it went independent around 2020, so we describe it as a former Xiaomi ecosystem brand now independent, and do not call it a Xiaomi product or Xiaomi-owned today. On where it is made: China. On products: the X-series handle has a colour touchscreen and a maglev motor with a high stroke rate, and a companion app. On the claims, attributed: the eight-times-more-plaque and eighty-four-thousand-movements figures are manufacturer claims, and Oclean’s statement that its app stores data locally is the company’s own, not independently verified; we also keep this brush clear of the biometric class action, which is against Oral-B, not Oclean. Its designs and product names are IP we describe but do not reproduce; there is no official brand hex; these tones are an unofficial interpretation.)

Colour

Oclean lives in an electric indigo. Click a swatch to copy the hex.

Oclean’s identity is touchscreen-smart, once-ecosystem and now-independent — an electric indigo, an ink, a pale indigo, a deep indigo, and a paper. The palette leans electric indigo and deep indigo: a bright, tech register that nods to a screen-on-the-handle, app-connected brand rather than a loud logo colour. It signals the touchscreen smart brush — touchscreen-smart, once-ecosystem and now-independent. The honest caveat: with no official brand hex, these values are a tech, unofficial interpretation, not first-party colours.

The lesson is an electric indigo signals a smart, tech identity. Oclean’s world is the connected brush. For designers, it is a reminder that a bright indigo and a pale indigo can carry a smart, tech brand — an electric tone held as an accent, not a product shot. Because a bright hue can fail as small text, keep type dark and let the colour live in the accents, palette and band. The takeaways: date the founding to 2016 in Shenzhen; describe the Xiaomi origin as an ecosystem investment, independent since around 2020; credit the touchscreen handle and maglev motor; attribute the plaque and movement figures; and keep the biometric case with Oral-B, not Oclean.

Typography

The register is a smart sans — touchscreen-smart, once-ecosystem, now-independent.

Oclean’s identity carries a touchscreen-smart, once-ecosystem, now-independent spirit — a former ecosystem brand on its own. A smart sans captures the mood: clean, exact and modern, the register of a connected device. Set in an electric-indigo palette, the smart sans feels bright and precise — exactly the personality Oclean carries. It behaves like a made, connected thing rather than a loud logo, mirroring a pulse-ring and a sonic-wave. (Oclean’s real products and names are things we describe but do not reproduce, and the exact typeface is not ours to use.) Because it is not ours to use, the honest description is “a smart-sans brand,” shown here in a stand-in. The type behaves like the brand: touchscreen-smart, once-ecosystem and now-independent.

The oral-care node

Oclean stands for the touchscreen smart brush.

Oclean sits fifth in the round as its smart-brush node. An electric-indigo palette, a smart sans and a 2016 founding make one thing — the touchscreen smart brush — the whole identity: touchscreen-smart, once-ecosystem and now-independent. The touchscreen handle is the pitch, the former-Xiaomi origin is the frame, and the independence is the correction. The point is a former ecosystem brand now its own company, in a round about who owns the brushes and what the claims mean.

Put to work, the identity is the brand told straight, the Xiaomi origin nuanced and the claims attributed. A brand in this spirit would date the founding to 2016 in Shenzhen, describe the Xiaomi origin as an ecosystem investment and note independence since around 2020, credit the touchscreen handle, and attribute the plaque and movement figures. A reader in this spirit would keep the facts right: Oclean sells the X-series touchscreen smart brushes and water flossers; it was founded in 2016 in Shenzhen; it began as a Xiaomi ecological-chain brand and went independent around 2020, so it is not Xiaomi-owned today; it is made in China; and its eight-times-more-plaque and eighty-four-thousand-movements figures are attributed manufacturer claims. Oclean sits after Burst and before Laifen. The honest editorial moves are to date the founding, to nuance the Xiaomi origin, to credit the touchscreen, and to attribute the figures.

For designers and brand-builders, Oclean carries the oral-care node: nuance an ecosystem origin — and attribute the output figures. The lessons: a brand can begin inside a bigger company’s ecosystem and grow out of it, here Oclean and Xiaomi; a founding is dated to 2016 in Shenzhen, its individual founders treated as reported; an ownership is nuanced, since Oclean launched as a Xiaomi-invested ecological-chain brand and went independent around 2020, so it is not a Xiaomi product or Xiaomi-owned today; a making is said plainly as China; a product is credited as a touchscreen-handle maglev smart brush with an app; and the output figures, eight-times-more-plaque and eighty-four-thousand-movements, are attributed as manufacturer claims, with the app’s local-storage statement kept as the company’s own and the biometric class action kept with Oral-B, not Oclean. It is also a reminder to stay precise: Oclean is the independent, formerly-Xiaomi-ecosystem, touchscreen smart-brush brand — with the palette here an unofficial interpretation and the claims attributed. The hook is that screen: Oclean put a colour touchscreen on a toothbrush handle, a 2016 Shenzhen brand that began inside Xiaomi’s ecosystem, went independent around 2020, and competes on a maglev motor and an app. Read that way, Oclean is less a single brush than the touchscreen smart brush: touchscreen-smart, once-ecosystem, now-independent. The lesson for a brand is that nuancing an ecosystem origin and attributing the output figures reinforce the honesty, and dating the founding keeps it earned. Oclean made the-touchscreen-smart-brush the identity — proof that a nuanced ownership origin can anchor a node.

Editorial reference. This article reports publicly documented facts about Oclean’s visual identity as design commentary; it is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, Oclean or Xiaomi. The Oclean name and product names (X-series, “WhisperClean”) are IP of their owners — the graphics here are original abstract homages (colour discs and pulse-ring / sonic-wave texture swatches); no toothbrush, brush head or logo is reproduced, and all specimen text is set in a Google-Font stand-in. Facts reported: founded May 2016 in Shenzhen, China (founders reported to include French entrepreneur Laurent Le Pen — reported, not on the company’s own page); hero = smart sonic X-series brushes with a colour touchscreen on the handle and a maglev motor (X Pro Elite: 84,000 movements/min, “WhisperClean” <45 dB) + a companion app; water flossers. ⚠️ Xiaomi nuance: Oclean launched as a Xiaomi "ecological chain" brand (Xiaomi-INVESTED, independently operated — NOT a subsidiary) and went independent ~2020 — it is NOT "a Xiaomi product" or Xiaomi-owned today. Honest notes: made in China (Xiamen reported). ⚠️ Claims: "removes up to 8x more plaque" and "84,000 movements/min" are manufacturer claims (attributed); Oclean’s statement that its app stores data locally is a company claim, not independently verified; the biometric-data class action is against Oral-B/P&G, NOT Oclean — not conflated here. No recall was found. No official brand hex is used, so the tones here are an unofficial interpretation.
