How many pixels are in an inch?
It depends on the resolution (DPI). At 96 DPI (screens) there are 96 px per inch; at 300 DPI (print) there are 300.
What DPI should I use — 72, 96 or 300?
Use 96 for screens (the CSS reference) and 300 for print. 72 DPI is an outdated web myth.
Does DPI matter for images on the web?
No — browsers use pixel dimensions only and ignore DPI metadata. DPI matters for print size.
How many pixels do I need for a sharp print?
Multiply the print size in inches by 300. A 4×6 inch print needs about 1200×1800 px.
Is PPI the same as DPI?
Close enough here — PPI is pixels per inch (screens/images), DPI is dots per inch (printers); the conversion is the same.
