4th of July Banner
Make a 4th of July banner with your own words. Start from HAPPY 4TH OF JULY, USA, HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY or JULY 4TH!, or type anything, such as a family name. Each letter gets its own flag, one per US Letter or A4 page, in red, white and blue: stripes, a star field, or both alternating, with our own firework and star end flags. 4TH can share one flag, and punctuation stays with its letter. Or print the words as one long strip banner, tiled across pages with a glue overlap. Free, with no sign-up and no watermark.
Nothing to upload. Banners are made in your browser.
Words
Banner
Runs in your browser with our own code: your words never leave your device, and nothing is saved. The end-flag drawings, stripes and star fields are our own. Letters use Anton or Graduate (SIL Open Font Licence, loaded from jsDelivr) or Helvetica; if a font cannot load, a system font stands in. Print at 100% (Actual size) on card stock.

What prints

|---|---|---|---|
| Letter flags | US Letter, portrait | 19.6 × 24.4 cm + 15 mm tab | PDF (one flag per page) or a ZIP of PNGs |
| Letter flags | A4, portrait | 19 × 26.2 cm + 15 mm tab | PDF (one flag per page) or a ZIP of PNGs |
| Long strip | US Letter, landscape | 18.4 cm high; 24.4 cm of new banner per page | PDF tiles or one PNG |

Sizes are read from the tool. Strip tiles overlap by 15 mm; the tool counts the pages for your words.
Patterns and end flags
| Pattern | What it looks like |
|---|---|
| Stripes and stars, alternating | Letter flags take turns: stripes, then a star field |
| Stripes | 7 bands, red on white, the letter on a white disc |
| Star field | White stars on blue around a white letter |
| Solid red, white and blue | Plain flags in turn, letters in white or blue |
End flags, our own drawings on a star field: firework, star, three stars, star in a burst. Flag shapes: triangle pennant, swallowtail, rectangle, scalloped. Colours: classic red, white and blue, bright red, white and blue, vintage red, cream and navy, or your own.
Ready-made words

How to hang it
| Step | Tip |
|---|---|
| Cut | Cut on the solid grey line; keep the flags in order |
| Fold | Fold the tab back on the dashed line over the string, glue or tape |
| Space | About 25 mm between flags; mini pegs let you change the words later |
| Strip | Trim each tile, lay it over the next one up to the dashed line and glue |
Print at 100% (Actual size) on card stock so every flag comes out the same size. Indoors or under cover, paper flags last longer.

Can I write my own words?
Yes. Type any words: a family name, a street party or a greeting. Each letter, number or symbol gets a flag; spaces become a star flag, a blank flag or a gap on the string, as you choose.
Does 4TH go on one flag?
By default, yes: a number followed by ST, ND, RD or TH shares one flag, so HAPPY 4TH OF JULY needs 17 flags with the end flags. Untick the box to give every letter its own flag (19 flags).
What happens to commas and exclamation marks?
They ride on the flag of the letter before them, so JULY 4TH! puts the exclamation mark on the 4TH flag (or on the H when 4TH is split). No flag carries a lone mark.
How big is each flag?
One flag fills a page: 19.6 × 24.4 cm (7.71 × 9.62 in) below the fold-over tab on US Letter, 19 × 26.2 cm on A4, with 10 mm margins. The tab is 15 mm deep.
What patterns are there?
Stripes (red bands on white with the letter on a white disc), a star field (white stars on blue), both alternating, or solid red, white and blue flags. Stripes and stars are drawn as shapes cut to the flag, so nothing spills past the cut line.
How does the long strip banner work?
Choose One long strip: the words are set in one band 18.4 cm high on US Letter (17.8 cm on A4) with red stripes along the top and bottom, split across landscape pages. Each page repeats the last 15 mm of the one before, marked with a dashed line.
How much string do I need?
The tool adds it up: every flag’s width, 25 mm between flags and 50 cm free at each end to tie. It shows the total under the preview.
Can kids colour it in?
Yes. Choose Black and white: the flags print as outlines with the stripes and stars left white to colour.
Can I use the banner at an event or sell prints?
Yes. The designs are our own drawings: you may use them and anything you make with them, including things you sell, with no credit needed.
Are my words uploaded?
No. The flags, the PDF and the PNGs are made in your browser and nothing is saved.
