Number Tracing
Make printable number tracing worksheets for any numbers from 0 to 100. The default gives one page per number: a big dotted numeral with numbered stroke arrows, pictures to count and colour, the number word to trace, a ten frame, and rows of the number to finish the page, all in one PDF. Switch to practice rows for every number, or put 0 to 10 or 0 to 20 on a single chart. Choose print, slanted print or one of four cursive styles, a line size from 1/2 in to 1 in, and US Letter or A4.
100% private — everything runs in your browser. Numbers and sheets are made in your browser; nothing is uploaded and nothing is saved when you close the page.

Runs in your browser: nothing is uploaded or saved. Print at 100% (Actual size) so the lines keep their true size. The designs are our own drawings: you may use them and anything you make with them, including things you sell, with no credit needed. The cursive styles use the Playwrite typefaces (SIL Open Font License).

Three kinds of number sheet
| Worksheet | What is on it | Pages |
|---|---|---|
| One number per page | A big dotted numeral with stroke arrows (48 mm tall), pictures to count and colour, the number word, a ten frame, then rows of the number | One per number |
| Practice rows | A solid example row, dotted rows, the number word row if you want it and blank rows, for each number in turn | As many as the numbers need |
| All the numbers on one sheet | Every number in a box with a start dot or arrows, and the word underneath | One sheet for up to 30 numbers: 0–10 in 3 × 4, 0–20 in 5 × 5, 1–30 in 5 × 6 |
Line sizes for practice rows
| Line size | Top to baseline | Rows, US Letter | Rows, A4 | Numbers a page | With number words |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 in | 25.4 mm | 5 | 5 | 1 | 1 |
| 3/4 in | 19.1 mm | 6 | 7 | 1 | 1 |
| 5/8 in | 15.9 mm | 8 | 9 | 2 | 1 |
| 1/2 in | 12.7 mm | 10 | 11 | 2 | 2 |
Counts are for practice rows with a name and date heading, the title and the foot note: each number takes an example row, two tracing rows and one blank row, plus a row for the word when it is on.
Number words, zero to twenty
| Number | Word | Number | Word |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0 | zero | 10 | ten |
| 1 | one | 11 | eleven |
| 2 | two | 12 | twelve |
| 3 | three | 13 | thirteen |
| 4 | four | 14 | fourteen |
| 5 | five | 15 | fifteen |
| 6 | six | 16 | sixteen |
| 7 | seven | 17 | seventeen |
| 8 | eight | 18 | eighteen |
| 9 | nine | 19 | nineteen |
| 20 | twenty |
Words up to one hundred are drawn in the same single-stroke letters as the print numbers, so they trace the same way.
Pictures to count
Pictures: Stars, Apples, Hearts, Balls, Flowers, Fish, Blocks. Each is a simple outline, black on white, with lines no thinner than 0.35 mm so they print clearly and are easy to colour. Numbers up to 20 get pictures in the box beside the numeral, in rows of five; larger numbers get a bigger numeral instead.
Number zero gets an empty box and the words “Zero: nothing to count”.
Dots on the centre line
Many number sheets use outlined digits, with two lines and nothing to follow down the middle. These sheets put one line of dots where the pencil goes. The print digits are drawn as single strokes; the cursive styles are thinned to their centre line in your browser.
For plain writing paper with the same lines, use lined paper. For a chart to colour in as numbers are finished, try the reward chart, and for squared paper, graph paper.

Frequently asked questions
How do I make number tracing worksheets?
Choose the worksheet and the numbers, then download the PDF. One number per page gives a sheet for each number in the range, in order, in one file.
Are these number tracing worksheets free?
Yes. Every layout, style and download is free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit.
Can I print number tracing 1 to 20?
Yes. Choose 1 to 20 for twenty pages, one per number, or All the numbers on one sheet for a single chart. Numbers above 10 get two ten frames.
Can I make a sheet for one number only?
Yes. Choose My own list and type the number, or several numbers like 6, 9 to make a set of only those.
What are the numbers and arrows on the digits?
They show the order and direction of each stroke, on the print styles. We drew each digit stroke by stroke. Schools teach number formation in different ways, so check it matches yours; you can switch to start dots or turn the guides off.
Why do cursive numbers have no arrows?
The cursive styles come from typefaces, which hold the shape of a digit but not the order it is written in. Rather than guess, the arrows stay on the print styles.
What pictures are there to count?
Stars, apples, hearts, balls, flowers, fish and blocks, all our own simple outlines for colouring, or a mix of all of them. They sit in rows of five.
What is a ten frame?
A grid of two rows of five boxes. The sheet asks for as many boxes to be coloured as the number on the page, and a second frame appears for numbers from 11 to 20.
Can I trace numbers as words?
Yes. Number words puts the word under the numeral, once solid and once dotted, for any number from zero to one hundred. On the chart the word is printed under each number.
What size lines should I use?
That depends on the writer, so print a test page. 1 in and 3/4 in lines are common for very young writers, and 1/2 in suits older ones. The line size is printed in the note at the foot of the sheet.
How do I print it at the right size?
Print the PDF at 100% or “Actual size”, not “Fit to page”. The line size in the foot note is then the true size on paper.
Can I use it on a phone?
Yes. Make the sheets and download the PDF, then print it or send it to a printer later.
