Print at 100% (Actual size) so the lines keep their true size. Cursive and joined styles use the Playwrite typefaces (SIL Open Font License); print letters are our own drawing.

Six kinds of handwriting sheet
| Worksheet | You type | You get |
|---|---|---|
| Letters | a-z, or a list such as s a t p | Each letter on its own rows, capital and lower case, or either |
| Numbers | A from and to, such as 1 to 20 | Each number on its own rows, up or down |
| Words | One word per line, or commas | Each word repeated across the line |
| Sentences | One sentence per line | A row for each sentence, wrapped if it runs long |
| Copy a passage | Any text | The passage across the rows, in order |
| Blank paper | Nothing | Pages of empty writing lines |
The rows for each item stay together on a page where they can, so a tracing row doesn’t end up a page away from its example.
Handwriting paper sizes
| Line size | One row | Rows, US Letter | Rows, A4 | Items a page, US Letter | Items a page, A4 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 in | 43.7 mm | 5 | 5 | 1 | 1 |
| 3/4 in | 32.8 mm | 7 | 7 | 2 | 2 |
| 5/8 in | 27.3 mm | 8 | 9 | 2 | 3 |
| 1/2 in | 21.8 mm | 10 | 11 | 3 | 3 |
| 3/8 in | 16.4 mm | 14 | 15 | 4 | 5 |
These counts include a name and date heading and the small print note. An item here is three rows: one example, one tracing row and one blank row. Turn the heading off for more.

Handwriting practice sheets, your way
- “Fade the tracing rows” lightens each tracing row in turn. Try three tracing rows and one blank row.
- Turn off “Solid example row” for a sheet of tracing only, or set tracing rows to 0 for an example and copy rows.
- Add an instruction line such as “Trace each word, then write it on your own”.
- The Print styles work with accents, like é and ñ. Other characters use your device’s font.
- To turn typed text into a page that looks handwritten, use Text to Handwriting. For plain ruled pages, try lined paper, and for broad-nib guide lines, calligraphy practice sheets.

Frequently asked questions
How do I make a handwriting worksheet?
Pick a worksheet type, type your text, then choose the style, lines and rows. The preview updates as you go, and the PDF has every page.
Is this handwriting worksheet generator free?
Yes. Every mode, style and download is free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on worksheets.
Can I type my own words and sentences?
Yes. Words go one per line or with commas. Sentences go one per line, and long ones wrap onto the next row. Copy a passage wraps the whole text across the rows.
Can I make cursive handwriting worksheets?
Yes. Choose Traditional cursive, Modern cursive, Semi-joined or Slanted joined. The dots follow the joined line.
What is the difference between tracing and copying rows?
A tracing row has the letters in dots to go over. A blank copy row has only the lines, for writing it again without help. Set how many of each you want for every item.
Can I print blank handwriting paper?
Yes. Choose Blank handwriting paper, set the line size and style, and pick how many pages, up to 50.
Can I practise only certain letters?
Yes. In the Letters box type a range like a-m, or a list like s a t p i n, and choose capitals, lower case or both.
Can I change the writing lines?
Yes. Choose three lines with a dashed middle, four lines with a descender line, blue lines with a red baseline, a shaded middle band, or a baseline alone, and set the line colour.
What are the numbers and arrows on the letters?
They show the order and direction of each stroke on the print styles. Schools teach letter formation in different ways, so check it matches yours. You can show start dots instead, or nothing.
How do I keep the lines the right size?
Print the PDF at 100% or “Actual size”, not “Fit to page”. The lines are set in millimetres, and the note at the foot of the sheet gives the size.
How long can the text be?
As long as you like, up to 100 pages in one PDF. If the text runs past that, the tool tells you where it stopped.
Are adults welcome to use it?
Of course. Choose 3/8 in lines, a slanted or cursive style and a passage you like.
Is my text uploaded?
No. The worksheets are made in your browser, so your text never leaves your device, and nothing is stored once you close the page.
Can I use other alphabets?
Print letters outside the alphabet we drew use your device’s font, so most scripts will show, though they look different and have no stroke arrows. Title and instruction text in any script stays sharp in the PDF.
