Frequently asked questions

How do I make a GIF smaller?

The biggest saving is usually reducing the size (75% or 50%), then lowering colours to 128 or 64. Dropping frames helps too, and the tool keeps the total duration the same.

Will compressing change the animation speed?

No. When frames are dropped, the remaining frames show for longer, so the GIF plays at the same speed.

Why did my GIF get bigger?

Already well-optimised GIFs can grow when re-encoded at the same settings. Choose a smaller size or fewer colours.

Does it keep transparency?

Yes. Transparent GIFs stay transparent after compression.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Everything runs in your browser, so your files never leave your device.
