Axolotl Coloring Pages

Make free printable axolotl coloring pages from 12 pictures we drew ourselves: an axolotl from the side, an axolotl from the front, a close-up of its feathery gills, a kawaii axolotl, a swimming axolotl, an axolotl in water plants, an axolotl with eggs on a plant, two axolotls, an axolotl in an aquarium, an axolotl holding a heart, an axolotl resting on a rock, and an easy axolotl with big shapes for little ones. The axolotls are our own drawings, with no video-game, cartoon or toy axolotls, brands or logos, so the pages suit any home or classroom. Print one big picture on a page, a grid of four or six small pictures, a lake scene, a fold-in-half card, or an axolotl mandala with a new pattern at the press of a button. Blank axolotls to design prints 1, 2, 4 or 6 plain axolotl outlines per page, for children to add their own spots and patterns; one axolotl fills a 186 mm square on US Letter. Add an “Axolotl Friends” poster in hollow letters, type a child’s name for a name page, or paste a class list to get the same picture for everyone with each name at the top. Choose simple, medium or detailed lines, never thinner than 0.5 mm. Download one multi-page PDF for US Letter or A4, a 300 DPI PNG of every page, or an SVG. No sign-up, no watermark.

Frequently asked questions

Are these axolotl coloring pages free?

Yes. Every page is free to make, download and print, with no sign-up and no watermark. All the pictures are our own drawings.

Are these axolotls from a video game?

No. Every axolotl is our own drawing, with no game, cartoon or toy look, name or costume. Children can color them any way they like.

What are the frilly things on an axolotl’s head?

Gills. The San Francisco Zoo says axolotls have external gills that look like a feathery head piece, and the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance says they keep these gills and their tail fin as adults. We drew three gill stalks on each side, with fronds from Medium lines up.

What color are axolotls?

Wild axolotls are dark: the San Francisco Zoo describes them as dark grayish-green, and the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance as black to dark brown with black spots. Pink, white and golden axolotls are mostly seen in aquariums and zoos. On these pages the colors are up to you.

Where do axolotls live?

Only in Mexico. The San Francisco Zoo says they are found in just three places in and around Lake Xochimilco, and both zoos list the axolotl as Critically Endangered.

Which axolotl pages suit toddlers and preschoolers?

Choose Simple lines: big shapes with thick outlines. The axolotl gills close-up and the axolotl side view have the fewest shapes, as the table shows.

Can I make a page for every child in my class?

Yes. Choose Class set, pick a picture and paste the names, one per line, up to 40. Each child gets the same picture with their own name in hollow letters at the top, all in one PDF.

Are there axolotl coloring pages for adults?

Yes. Choose Axolotl mandala with Detailed lines: each pattern number gives a different symmetric design. Choose 16 repeats for the most intricate pattern.

Can I use the pages for things I sell?

Yes. The designs are our own drawings, so you may use the pages and what you make with them, including things you sell, without giving credit.

How do I print the coloring pages?

Download the PDF and print it on plain paper. Choose 100% or Actual size to keep the margins and sizes as drawn; Fit to page also works if your printer cuts off the edges.

Is anything uploaded?

No. Everything runs in your browser. Names and words are not sent anywhere, and nothing is saved when you close the page.
