Rainbow Coloring Pages
Make free printable rainbow coloring pages from 12 pictures we drew ourselves: a rainbow between two clouds, a rainbow and the sun, a rainbow under a rain cloud, a boho rainbow, a rainbow heart, a rainbow over a castle, a rainbow over the hills, a double rainbow, a rainbow hot-air balloon, a kawaii rainbow with smiling clouds, a rainbow over flowers, and an easy rainbow with big bands for little ones. Simple lines give each rainbow four wide bands for small hands; Medium and Detailed lines give the seven bands of a real rainbow, red on the outside to violet on the inside. Print one big picture on a page, a grid of four or six small pictures, a rainbow sky scene, a fold-in-half card, or a rainbow mandala with a new pattern at the press of a button. Blank rainbows to design prints 1, 2, 4 or 6 rainbows with one wide empty band per page, for children to draw their own stripes; one rainbow fills a 186 mm square on US Letter. Add an “After the Rain” poster in hollow letters, type a child’s name for a name page, or paste a class list to get the same picture for everyone with each name at the top. Choose simple, medium or detailed lines, never thinner than 0.5 mm. Download one multi-page PDF for US Letter or A4, a 300 DPI PNG of every page, or an SVG. No sign-up, no watermark.
100% private — everything runs in your browser. Names stay in your browser; the PDF, PNG and SVG are made on your device.
Page
Runs in your browser with our own code; names and words never leave your device, and nothing is saved. Every picture is our own drawing, black lines on white, with no characters, brands or logos. The blank rainbows are one wide arch between two clouds, for drawing your own stripes. The designs are our own drawings: you may use them and anything you make with them, including things you sell, with no credit needed. The lettering fonts keep their own open licenses.

Rainbow colors: what we read
| Band (outside to inside) | Color | What we read |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Red | Met Office: the classic order is red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet; NOAA National Weather Service: red on the outside edge of the bow |
| 2 | Orange | Met Office |
| 3 | Yellow | Met Office |
| 4 | Green | Met Office |
| 5 | Blue | Met Office; NOAA National Weather Service: blue along the inner portion of the bow |
| 6 | Indigo | Met Office |
| 7 | Violet | Met Office: violet has the shortest wavelength |
Use the table as a color key for the seven-band pictures. On the double rainbow, the outer bow is reversed: violet on the outside, red on the inside.
Blank rainbows to design
| Rainbows per page | Each fits (US Letter) | Each fits (A4) |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 186 mm square | 181 mm square |
| 2 | 120 mm square | 129 mm square |
| 4 | 89 mm square | 86 mm square |
| 6 | 77 mm square | 83 mm square |
Sizes are for the page with No title chosen; a title at the top makes them a little smaller. Each blank rainbow is one wide arch between two clouds, with no bands, so the stripes are up to you.
Simple to detailed lines
| Lines | Outlines | Small details | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Simple | 1.8 mm | 1.4 mm | Toddlers, chunky crayons, big markers |
| Medium | 1.1 mm | 0.8 mm | Most children, colored pencils |
| Detailed | 0.75 mm | 0.5 mm | Older children and adults, fine pens and pencils |
Line widths are measured at print size. The thinnest line on any page is 0.5 mm, so every shape stays open to color.

Are these rainbow coloring pages free?
Yes. Every page is free to make, download and print, with no sign-up and no watermark. All the pictures are our own drawings.
What order do the rainbow colors go in?
Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet, often remembered as ROYGBIV. The Met Office gives this classic order, and the National Weather Service (NOAA) says red is on the outside edge of the bow and blue along the inside. With Medium or Detailed lines each rainbow has seven bands, so color the outer band red and work inward.
Why are the colors reversed in a double rainbow?
The Met Office says the second, fainter rainbow appears outside the first with its colors reversed, and the National Weather Service says the same: light reflects twice inside the raindrops. So on the double rainbow page, color the inner bow red on the outside and the outer bow red on the inside.
How do rainbows form?
The Met Office says a rainbow is made by the refraction and reflection of sunlight in water droplets, and that to see one the Sun must be behind you with the droplets in front. It also says rainbows are really full circles; we usually see only an arc.
Can children design their own rainbow?
Yes. Choose Blank rainbows to design and pick 1, 2, 4 or 6 per page. Each is one wide arch between two clouds, ready for stripes, dots or patterns. With no title, one rainbow fills a 186 mm square on US Letter; six fill 77 mm squares.
Which rainbow pages suit toddlers and preschoolers?
Choose Simple lines: big shapes with thick outlines. The rainbow heart and the easy rainbow have the fewest shapes, as the table shows.
Can I make a page for every child in my class?
Yes. Choose Class set, pick a picture and paste the names, one per line, up to 40. Each child gets the same picture with their own name in hollow letters at the top, all in one PDF.
Are there rainbow coloring pages for adults?
Yes. Choose Rainbow mandala with Detailed lines: each pattern number gives a different symmetric design. Choose 16 repeats for the most intricate pattern.
Can I use the pages for things I sell?
Yes. The designs are our own drawings, so you may use the pages and what you make with them, including things you sell, without giving credit.
How do I print the coloring pages?
Download the PDF and print it on plain paper. Choose 100% or Actual size to keep the margins and sizes as drawn; Fit to page also works if your printer cuts off the edges.
Is anything uploaded?
No. Everything runs in your browser. Names and words are not sent anywhere, and nothing is saved when you close the page.
