TTF to WOFF2 Converter
Convert a .ttf font into the modern, Brotli-compressed .woff2 web format so your pages load faster and use less bandwidth. Everything runs entirely in your browser, so your font file is never uploaded, and there is no signup or software to install. When it is done you get the optimised .woff2 plus ready-to-paste @font-face CSS to drop straight into your site.
Converts fonts locally with WOFF2 compression for the web. Web-font kit includes a .woff2 file and ready-to-paste @font-face CSS.
How to convert TTF to WOFF2
- Drag your
.ttffile onto the upload area, or click to browse and select it from your device. - Leave the Output dropdown on WOFF2 (web) — this is the default and the right choice for websites.
- Pick a font-display value such as
swap(keeps text visible while the font loads) oroptional. - Click Convert & download to generate and save your optimised
.woff2file. - Click Copy CSS to grab the matching
@font-facerule, then paste it into your stylesheet.
The conversion happens locally in your browser using client-side code, so your font file is never uploaded to a server and stays completely private.
Why convert TTF to WOFF2?
TTF files are built for desktop use and are much larger than they need to be for the web. WOFF2 wraps the exact same font data in Brotli compression, producing files that are roughly 30% smaller than WOFF and far smaller than raw TTF. Smaller fonts download quicker and render sooner, which reduces layout shift and helps your Core Web Vitals and overall page speed.
WOFF2 is also the current web standard, supported by every modern browser, so it is the format to reach for when serving fonts online. Best of all, the conversion is lossless: the glyphs and outlines are identical to your original TTF — only the packaging and compression change.
TTF vs WOFF2: what’s the difference?
TTF (TrueType Font) is a desktop, installable format with quadratic glyf outlines and no compression, made for operating systems and design apps. WOFF2 (Web Open Font Format 2) is a web wrapper around that same outline data, compressed with Brotli and optimised for fast delivery over the internet.
| TTF | WOFF2 | |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | Desktop install, design software | Websites and web apps |
| Compression | None (uncompressed) | Brotli |
| File size | Large | Smallest — much smaller than TTF |
| Support | Universal on desktop OSes | All modern browsers |
Using your WOFF2 font on a website
Declare the font once with an @font-face rule that points at your .woff2 file, then reference the family name anywhere in your CSS. Adding font-display: swap keeps text visible with a fallback while the custom font loads:
@font-face {
font-family: 'My Font';
src: url('myfont.woff2') format('woff2');
font-weight: 400;
font-style: normal;
font-display: swap;
}
body {
font-family: 'My Font', sans-serif;
}
The Copy CSS button generates this rule for you, so you can paste it straight in and adjust the family name, weight, and style to match your font.
Frequently asked questions
Is TTF to WOFF2 conversion lossless?
Yes. Converting TTF to WOFF2 does not alter the glyphs or outlines — it simply recompresses the same font data with Brotli for efficient web delivery. Your letterforms look exactly the same, just in a smaller file.
Do all browsers support WOFF2?
Yes. WOFF2 is supported by all modern browsers, including Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. It is the recommended font format for the web today.
Should I also provide a WOFF or TTF fallback?
For modern browsers, WOFF2 on its own is enough. You only need to add a WOFF fallback if you must support very old browsers; in that case list WOFF2 first in the src stack so capable browsers still pick the smaller file.
Is this converter free and private?
Yes. It is completely free, and it runs entirely client-side in your browser. Your font file is never uploaded, there is no signup, and there are no watermarks or limits.
What size .ttf file can I convert?
Because processing happens locally on your own machine, you can convert everyday font files — including large families — without upload limits. Performance depends on your device rather than a server.
Can I also export a full web-font kit?
Yes. Switch the Output dropdown to Web-font kit (ZIP) to download a package containing your font files together with a starter @font-face stylesheet, ready to drop into a project.
