Graduation Banner

Make a graduation banner with your own words. Start from CONGRATS GRAD, CLASS OF 2027, CONGRATULATIONS or CONGRATS with a name, or type anything. Each letter gets its own flag, one per US Letter or A4 page, in two alternating school colours, with our own graduation cap, tassel, star, diploma or laurel drawings on the end flags. Punctuation stays with its letter, so GRAD’S and MIA! never waste a flag. Or print the words as one long strip banner, tiled across pages with a glue overlap. Free, with no sign-up and no watermark.

Banner

Runs in your browser with our own code: your words never leave your device, and nothing is saved. The end-flag drawings are our own. Letters use Graduate or Anton (SIL Open Font Licence, loaded from jsDelivr) or Helvetica; if a font cannot load, a system font stands in. Print at 100% (Actual size) on card stock.

How to make a graduation banner

  1. Type the words, or tap a ready-made one.
  2. Choose letter flags or one long strip.
  3. Choose the flag shape, the end flags and your school colours.
  4. Download the PDF and print at 100% on card stock.
  5. Cut the flags out, fold the tabs over a string and hang them in order.

Frequently asked questions

Can I write my own words?

Yes. Type any words: a name, a school year or a message. Each letter, number or symbol gets a flag; spaces become a star flag, a blank flag or a gap on the string, as you choose.

What happens to commas, apostrophes and exclamation marks?

They ride on the flag of the letter before them, so GRAD’S prints as G, R, A, D’, S and CONGRATS, MIA! puts the comma on the S and the exclamation mark on the A. An apostrophe at the start of a word, as in ’27, stays with the number after it. No flag carries a lone mark.

How big is each flag?

One flag fills a page: 19.6 × 24.4 cm (7.71 × 9.62 in) below the fold-over tab on US Letter, 19 × 26.2 cm on A4, with 10 mm margins. The tab is 15 mm deep.

How does the long strip banner work?

Choose One long strip: the words are set in one band 18.4 cm high on US Letter (17.8 cm on A4) and split across landscape pages. Each page repeats the last 15 mm of the one before, marked with a dashed line, so the pieces line up when you glue them.

How much string do I need?

The tool adds it up: every flag’s width, 25 mm between flags and 50 cm free at each end to tie. It shows the total under the preview.

Can I use school colours?

Yes. Pick two colours or start from a preset such as navy and gold; the flags alternate between them and the letters switch between white and dark to stay readable.

What paper should I use?

Card stock holds its shape on a string. Print at 100% (Actual size) and cut on the solid lines; fold the tabs on the dashed line.

Can I use the banner at a paid event or sell prints?

Yes. The designs are our own drawings: you may use them and anything you make with them, including things you sell, with no credit needed.

Are my words uploaded?

No. The flags, the PDF and the PNGs are made in your browser and nothing is saved.
