How do I extract text from a PDF?

Why is no text found in my PDF?

Scanned documents and photos saved as PDF contain images of text, not text itself. Convert the pages with PDF to JPG, then use our Image to Text (OCR) tool to read them.

Does it keep the formatting?

It extracts plain text: words, lines and paragraph breaks. Fonts, images and tables aren't kept. Tick “Keep column spacing” to approximate the layout of columns and tables with spaces.

Can I convert a multi-page PDF?

Yes. Every page is extracted in order. Tick “Mark page breaks” to add a “Page N” marker between pages.

Can it open password-protected PDFs?

PDFs that need a password to open must be unlocked first with our Unlock PDF tool.
