Star Template
Print a star template for free. Choose 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10 or 12 points. The classic star is drawn by geometry, not by hand: its points sit on one circle and its inner corners on a second, smaller circle, so every point is the same and the edges run in straight lines (a 5-point star’s inner circle is 0.382 of the outer one). Make the points chubby or slim, and the corners sharp or rounded. Print an outline to cut and colour, an outline with a border line inside, a solid star, or a stencil with the star cut out of a card. Add fold lines to turn the star into a 3D star. Set the height from 1/2 in to a full page, or a poster up to 36 in tiled over several sheets; fill the sheet with small stars, or print a set that gets 1 in smaller each time for layered stars. Type names to print one on each star. A check square shows the print is true size. Download a PDF on US Letter or A4, an SVG cut file or a PNG. No sign-up, no watermark.

Lettering
Runs in your browser with our own code; names never leave your device, and nothing is saved. The stars are drawn by our own code: the classic star’s points are placed on two circles. Every piece is placed so it fits the sheet. The PDF is true size: print at 100% (Actual size) and check the square.
How to print a star template
- Choose the points, the point shape and the style.
- Choose the height, or a set of sizes, and how many stars.
- Optional: rounded corners, 3D fold lines, names, the colour version or “Fill the sheet”.
- Download the PDF and print at 100% (Actual size); measure the check square. There is also an SVG (true size, for Cricut, Silhouette or laser cutters) and a 300 DPI PNG, one per sheet.
- Cut out the stars and decorate them.
What you can use it for
- Christmas tree toppers, garlands and ornaments
- Reward and “star student” stars with names
- Stencils for painting, cards and walls
- 3D paper stars from a single sheet
- Cookie, sewing and felt shapes (trace the outline)
- Cutting practice with the dashed outline

Star points
| Points | Inner circle (classic) | Chubby | Slim | Width of a 4 in star |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4 | 0.400 | 0.580 | 0.288 | 10.2 cm |
| 5 | 0.382 | 0.567 | 0.275 | 10.7 cm |
| 6 | 0.577 | 0.704 | 0.416 | 8.8 cm |
| 7 | 0.357 | 0.550 | 0.257 | 10.4 cm |
| 8 | 0.541 | 0.679 | 0.390 | 10.2 cm |
| 10 | 0.526 | 0.668 | 0.379 | 9.7 cm |
| 12 | 0.518 | 0.662 | 0.373 | 10.2 cm |
Inner circle = the radius of the inner corners divided by the radius of the points. For 5 points and more the classic value is computed from the regular star polygon, so the edges run straight; a 4-point star has none, so we use 0.400.
Poster stars and sets
| Star height | Width | US Letter sheets | A4 sheets |
|---|---|---|---|
| 12 in (30.5 cm) | 32 cm | 4 | 4 |
| 18 in (45.7 cm) | 48.1 cm | 6 | 6 |
A 6 in set prints 6 stars (6 in, 5 in, 4 in, 3 in, 2 in, 1 in) on 3 Letter sheets. Big stars are printed in pieces with overlap guides: trim, overlap and tape the sheets, then cut out the star.

Frequently asked questions
What sizes can I print?
Stars from 1/2 in tall up to a full page (7 in tall on US Letter), and posters up to 36 in tiled over several sheets. The tables on this page show the width and how many stars fit on a sheet.
How is the star drawn?
The classic star is the outline of a regular star polygon: the points sit on one circle and the inner corners on a second circle, so the edges line up in straight lines. For 5 points the inner circle is 0.382 times the outer one. Chubby and slim stars move the inner circle out or in.
How do I make a 3D star?
Tick the fold lines. Fold along the lines from the centre to each point so they rise, and along the lines to each inner corner so they sink, then pinch the centre up. Card works better than paper.
How do I use the stencil?
Choose “Stencil”: the star is printed as a hole in a card. Cut round the card, cut the star out of the middle, then trace or dab paint through it.
Can I print a set of sizes?
Yes: choose “A set” and every star is 1 in (or 2 cm) smaller than the one before, down to 1 in. Glue them on top of each other for a layered star.
How do I check the print is the right size?
Measure the check square on the first sheet: it must be exactly 1 in (or 2 cm with cm units) on each side. If it is smaller, print again at 100% or Actual size, not Fit to page.
Can I use it with a Cricut or Silhouette?
Yes. Download the SVG: it is true size in millimetres, with the cut lines on their own layer.
Can I sell things I make with these stars?
The designs are our own drawings: you may use them and anything you make with them, including things you sell, with no credit needed.
