Groundhog Day Coloring Pages
Make free printable Groundhog Day coloring pages from 7 pictures we drew ourselves: a groundhog standing up, a groundhog peeking from its burrow, a groundhog and its shadow, a burrow cross-section with a groundhog asleep inside, a groundhog with a blank sign to write on, a groundhog in a scarf, and a groundhog with spring flowers. None of them is a named groundhog: they are plain drawings for any classroom. The shadow or no shadow page prints two framed panels on one sheet: a sunny morning with a shadow (six more weeks of winter) and a cloudy morning with flowers coming up (an early spring), each with its caption in hollow letters. The lettering poster spells out “Happy Groundhog Day” with the date worked out for any year from 2025 to 2035: Tuesday, February 2, 2027. Print one big picture, a grid of small pictures, a Groundhog Day morning scene, a fold-in-half card, or a sunshine mandala. Add a name page or a class set, and choose simple, medium or detailed lines, never thinner than 0.5 mm. Download a PDF for US Letter or A4, a 300 DPI PNG of every page, or an SVG. No sign-up, no watermark.
100% private — everything runs in your browser. Names stay in your browser; the PDF, PNG and SVG are made on your device.
Page
Runs in your browser with our own code; names and words never leave your device, and nothing is saved. Every picture is our own drawing, black lines on white, with no characters, people or logos. The two-panel page shows the old saying about the shadow as folklore, not a forecast. The designs are our own drawings: you may use them and anything you make with them, including things you sell, with no credit needed. The lettering fonts keep their own open licenses.

Shadow or no shadow?
| Panel | Caption | Picture |
|---|---|---|
| Top | Shadow? Six more weeks of winter | A groundhog in the sun with its shadow on the ground |
| Bottom | No shadow? An early spring | A groundhog under clouds with flowers coming up |
Both panels share one page, each 123 mm tall on US Letter (131.8 mm on A4). The captions are hollow letters to color.
Simple to detailed lines
| Lines | Outlines | Small details | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Simple | 1.8 mm | 1.4 mm | Toddlers, chunky crayons, big markers |
| Medium | 1.1 mm | 0.8 mm | Most children, colored pencils |

Groundhog Day is February 2 every year (NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information: “Every February 2”); the tool works out the weekday for the poster, for any year from 2025 to 2035. The custom says that if the groundhog sees its shadow there will be six more weeks of winter, and if it does not, spring will come early. The pages treat this as folklore, not a weather forecast.
Printing tips
- Every page keeps a 12.7 mm (half inch) margin from the paper edge, on US Letter and A4.
- Plain paper is fine for crayons and pencils; use thicker paper or card for markers and paint.
- Print one page first and check it before printing a whole pack or class set.
- Choose Detailed lines only with fine pens or sharp pencils, and Simple lines with chunky crayons.

Are these Groundhog Day coloring pages free?
Yes. Every page is free to make, download and print, with no sign-up and no watermark. All the pictures are our own drawings.
When is Groundhog Day?
Groundhog Day is February 2 every year. In 2027 it is Tuesday, February 2, 2027; in 2028 it is Wednesday, February 2, 2028. The poster can show the date for any year from 2025 to 2035.
What is on the shadow or no shadow page?
Two framed panels, one above the other, each 123 mm tall on US Letter. The top one says “Shadow? Six more weeks of winter” with a groundhog, the sun and its shadow; the bottom one says “No shadow? An early spring” with clouds and flowers. Children can color both, or circle the one they guess.
Is this a real weather forecast?
No. The shadow saying is an old custom, and the pages present it as folklore for fun, not a forecast.
Which Groundhog Day pages suit toddlers and preschoolers?
Choose Simple lines: big shapes with thick outlines. The burrow cross-section and the groundhog peeking from its burrow have the fewest shapes, as the table shows.
Can I make a page for every child in my class?
Yes. Choose Class set, pick a picture and paste the names, one per line, up to 40. Each child gets the same picture with their own name in hollow letters at the top, all in one PDF.
Are there Groundhog Day coloring pages for adults?
Yes. Choose Sunshine mandala with Detailed lines: each pattern number gives a different symmetric design. Choose 16 repeats for the most intricate pattern.
How do I print the coloring pages?
Download the PDF and print it on plain paper. Choose 100% or Actual size to keep the margins and sizes as drawn; Fit to page also works if your printer cuts off the edges.
Is anything uploaded?
No. Everything runs in your browser. Names and words are not sent anywhere, and nothing is saved when you close the page.
