DVD Cover Maker
Make a DVD or Blu-ray case cover in your browser. Pick the case, and the template sets the back, spine and front at the size printers publish, with bleed and safe lines. Add a front picture and a back picture, or one picture across the whole wrap, choose a design and type the title, spine text and back text. The spine text turns and sizes itself to fit. Download a true-size PDF with crop marks for your paper, or a 300 DPI PNG. Free, with no sign-up and no watermark, and your pictures never leave your device.

How to make a DVD cover
- Choose your case: standard or slim DVD, one of the Blu-ray sizes, or a custom size. Measure your case if you can.
- Pick a design. Change the colours and the title lettering.
- Add a front picture and a back picture, or one picture for the whole wrap. Use Fill or Fit and the sliders to place it.
- Type the title, the line under it, the date and the back text. The spine shows the title unless you type something else.
- Keep text inside the green safe lines and away from the dashed fold lines.
- Choose your paper and download the PDF. Print at 100% (Actual size), cut on the crop marks and fold on the spine marks.
- Slide the cover under the clear sleeve of the case.
What you can use it for
- Covers for home videos, weddings and family films
- Showreel and portfolio discs
- Replacement covers for a damaged case
- Covers for a school or club performance
- Gift discs of photos or music
- Mock-ups for a short film or student project
DVD and Blu-ray cover sizes
Every size here comes from a printer’s or software maker’s published page. They don’t agree to the millimetre, because cases differ between makers. Measure your case if you can, and print a proof before a big run.

Which paper to print on
The PDF prints the cover at true size in the middle of the sheet, with crop marks when there is room for them and at least 4 mm left at the paper edge.

Print at 100% or Actual size. A heavier paper or a light card makes a crisper cover, but check that your printer takes it.
Getting the cover right
- Keep titles and faces inside the green safe lines, ⅛ in in from the trim and the folds, as 4over4 suggests.
- Use pictures of at least 300 DPI at the printed size; the tool shows the DPI of each one.
- Score the spine lines with a blunt knife and a ruler before folding.
- Turn the guides on for a proof print, then off for the final print.

Frequently asked questions
What size is a DVD cover?
A standard DVD case cover is 273 × 183 mm (about 10.75 × 7.2 in), with a 14 mm spine, according to 4over4 and RonyaSoft. Kunaki lists 274 × 184 mm. With ⅛ in of bleed the file is 279.35 × 189.35 mm.
What size is a Blu-ray cover?
Sources differ. Kunaki lists 266 × 148 mm with a 12 mm spine. RonyaSoft lists 268.7 × 148.4 mm for its US template and 271.7 × 148.4 mm for its UK template, which uses a 14 mm spine. Each is a choice in the tool.
How wide is the spine of a slim DVD case?
4over4 gives about 7 mm, and RonyaSoft gives 7 or 8 mm. The slim DVD choice uses 7 mm. You can type any spine width, which also covers thicker multi-disc cases.
Can I use a DVD template for a Blu-ray case?
No. A Blu-ray case is shorter, so a DVD cover won’t fit. Choose one of the Blu-ray sizes instead.
What is bleed and do I need it?
Bleed is extra picture past the cut line, so a slightly crooked cut doesn’t leave a white edge. 4over4 asks for ⅛ in. Kunaki says it doesn’t need bleed. If you cut it yourself, keep the bleed.
What resolution should my pictures be?
Printers ask for 300 DPI at the printed size. The tool works out each picture’s DPI and warns you if it’s lower.
Which paper fits a DVD cover?
The wrap is wider than a Letter sheet allows for crop marks, so use A4, US Legal, Tabloid or A3. The table below shows which papers fit each case. You can also choose a page the size of the wrap for a print shop.
Does it make disc labels?
No. For disc labels and CD jewel cases, use the CD Case Template.
What about 4K Ultra HD cases?
RonyaSoft lists 4K Ultra HD covers at about 269 × 148 mm with a 12.5 to 14 mm spine. Choose a Blu-ray size close to that, or a custom size from your own case.
Are my pictures uploaded?
No. Pictures are read and drawn in your browser and are never uploaded. Your text and settings are saved on this device, but pictures are not kept when you leave.
Can I use the designs?
Yes. The designs are our own drawings: you may use them and anything you make with them, including things you sell, with no credit needed. Use pictures and titles you have the right to use.
Is this page linked to Blu-ray or any disc maker?
No. Blu-ray is a trademark of the Blu-ray Disc Association, and Made Good Designs isn’t affiliated with it, or with any case maker, printer or replicator named here.
