PDF to Word Converter
This free PDF to Word converter rebuilds your PDF’s text as an editable .docx — paragraphs, headings, bullet lists, and page breaks — entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded: unlike Adobe, Smallpdf, or iLovePDF, your contract, statement, or manuscript never touches a server. You see a preview of the extracted text before you convert, and the result opens in Word, Google Docs, or LibreOffice ready to edit.

Rebuilds your PDF’s text as an editable Word document — paragraphs, headings, bullets, and page breaks — entirely on your device. Complex multi-column layouts are simplified and images are not carried over. For scanned PDFs, use our Image to Text (OCR) tool instead.
How to convert PDF to Word
- Drop your PDF onto the upload area. The tool reads every page and shows you a preview of the text it found, plus a word count.
- Choose whether to keep the PDF’s page breaks or let the text flow naturally, and whether to detect headings from font sizes.
- Click Convert to Word & download — the
.docxarrives with real Word paragraphs, headings, and bullet lists, not one giant text block.
What to expect — the honest version
No browser tool (and frankly, no server tool either) converts complex PDFs to Word perfectly, because PDFs don’t store paragraphs — they store positioned pieces of text. This converter reconstructs the structure with layout analysis:
| PDF content | What you get in Word |
|---|---|
| Body text | ✔ Editable paragraphs with sensible sizes; hyphenated line-breaks rejoined |
| Headings | ✔ Detected from font size → real Word Heading 1/2 styles (toggleable) |
| Bullet lists | ✔ Recognized and converted to Word bullets |
| Bold text | ✔ Preserved where the PDF’s fonts declare it |
| Page breaks | ✔ Kept (or let text flow — your choice) |
| Images & graphics | ✘ Not carried over |
| Multi-column layouts, tables | △ Simplified to reading order — expect cleanup |
For a typical report, letter, article, or book chapter, you’ll get a genuinely editable document. For a magazine spread, expect to tidy up. We’d rather set that expectation than pretend otherwise.
Scanned PDF? Use OCR instead — it’s free here
If your PDF is a scan (a photo of paper), there is no text to extract — the tool detects this and points you to our Image to Text (OCR) tool, which recognizes the text optically in 30+ languages and can output Word format directly. Worth knowing: on the big converter sites, OCR for scanned PDFs is typically a paid “Premium” feature — here it’s free and, like everything else, runs without uploading your document.
Frequently asked questions
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. Every major PDF-to-Word site uploads your document for server-side processing and keeps it at least temporarily. This tool does the entire conversion on your device — which is the reason it exists. For sensitive documents, that difference is the whole game.
Why don’t images come through?
We prioritized getting the text structure right — which is what “editable Word document” actually means for most people. If you need a visually identical copy rather than editable text, convert pages to images with PDF to Images and insert them into Word.
How good is the heading detection?
It clusters font sizes across the document: text notably larger than the body median becomes Heading 1 or 2. It works well on conventionally formatted documents; you can switch it off to get uniform paragraphs instead.
Does it handle password-protected PDFs?
No — remove the password first (with the PDF’s owner permission) and try again.
Is it free? Any limits?
Completely free — no signup, no watermarks, no page quota, no file-size cap, and no “2 free conversions per day” gate. Long documents just take a few more seconds on your device.
