A date range picker should make common ranges one click and custom ranges easy. These examples open over a revenue report with presets, two months with the selected range highlighted, start and end date fields, the number of days and a compare-to-previous-period toggle. Date range picker design tips

Lead with presets (last 7 or 30 days, quarter, year to date); most people never need the calendar.
Show two months on desktop so ranges that cross a month boundary are easy to pick.
Mirror the selection in editable text fields and show the length of the range.
Mark the start and end differently from the days in between, and do not rely on colour alone.

Two side-by-side months work best on desktop because many ranges cross a month boundary. On mobile, one scrolling month in a sheet fits better.

Do I need an Apply button?

For reports that reload data, yes: it lets people adjust both dates before anything changes. For lightweight filters, apply on selection.

How do I make a date picker accessible?

Let people type dates in the text fields, support arrow-key navigation in the grid, and label each day with its full date.
