How it works section examples

A how it works section explains the path from signing up to getting results in a few clear steps. Our examples show numbered steps with small visuals and connectors between them, designed for landing pages on web and mobile in eight visual styles, from editorial to playful, each with light and dark themes. Every example is an original design that comes with its HTML code and a DESIGN.md of colour, type and spacing tokens, in light and dark. Free to use and adapt.

How it works design tips

Questions

How many steps should a how it works section have?

Three is a common choice because it suggests simplicity, and four works if the process genuinely needs it. If your real process has many more steps, group them into stages rather than listing every action, and keep details for a help page.

Should each step have an illustration?

Small visuals help readers grasp each step quickly, especially simplified product snippets that show what they will actually see. Keep the style consistent across steps and make sure the text alone explains the step for people who cannot see the images.

Where should a how it works section go on a landing page?

It usually works best after the main value proposition and before pricing or detailed features. At that point visitors understand what the product offers and want to know how hard it is to start, so the steps answer the next natural question.
