Ege Brand Guidelines
The recycled carpet.
Aa
Two constants: an ocean-and-sand palette and a nordic sans register. Abstract homage — not an Ege carpet or wordmark.
The recycled carpet
Ege makes sustainable machine carpet, from recycled fibres, in Denmark.
Ege is a lesson in sustainability at scale as the identity. A Danish carpet maker in Herning, it machine-weaves and tufts carpet, tiles and rugs across its own Danish plants — a sustainability pioneer that turns recycled fibres, including old fishing nets, into new carpet. A carpet, made at scale and made to be greener.
Its identity is the recycled carpet. Ege’s sustainable Danish machine carpet, and its recycled materials, are the work it is known for. A conscience, made a signature. A large maker that led the industry on sustainability.
(Honest notes, so the story stays precise. Ege was founded in 1938 by Mads Eg Damgaard in Herning; it is controlled by the founding family’s holding company, so we do not describe it as a public company today. On where it makes we are precise: its carpet is genuinely made in Denmark, across four Danish production units controlling the full chain — though its wool yarn is spun in Lithuania, so we frame the “made in Denmark” claim around the finished carpet, and note its overseas entities are sales offices, not plants. Its sustainability is real and long-standing — an early ISO 14001 pioneer, using regenerated fibres such as ECONYL from recycled fishing nets, with cradle-to-cradle thinking. It collaborates with designers including Tom Dixon and Christian Lacroix. Its designs and name are its IP, described but never reproduced, and there is no official brand hex — these tones are an unofficial interpretation. This is design commentary and does not promote any product.)
Colour
Ege lives in an ocean-and-sand palette. Click a swatch to copy the hex.
Ege’s identity is sustainable, clean and Danish — an ocean, an ink, a sand, a slate, and a chalk. The palette leans ocean and sand: the register of recycled-ocean fibres and natural tone. It signals sustainability and scale over show. The honest caveat: with no published brand hex, these values are an original, unofficial interpretation, not first-party colours.
The lesson is an ocean-and-sand palette signals a sustainable, Danish identity. Ege’s world is a responsible, machine-made, made-in-Denmark object. For designers, it is a reminder that an ocean blue and a natural sand can carry a brand built on recycling — the ocean of reclaimed fishing nets and the sand of natural fibre. Because these tones can fail as small text, keep type dark and let the colour live in the accents, palette and band. The takeaways: recycle the fibre; make it in Denmark; lead on sustainability; and treat any single hex as unofficial.
Typography
The register is a nordic sans — clean, even, responsible.
Ege’s identity carries a clean, even, responsible spirit — an engineered object with a conscience. A nordic sans captures the mood: calm, contemporary and quiet, the register of a sustainable Danish carpet. Set in an ocean-and-sand palette, the nordic sans feels clean and even — exactly the personality Ege carries. It is responsible rather than loud, mirroring a recycled-fibre carpet. (Ege’s real carpets and wordmark are things we describe but do not reproduce, and the exact typeface is not ours to use.) Because it is not ours to use, the honest description is “a nordic-sans spirit,” shown here in a stand-in. The type behaves like the maker: clean, even and responsible.

Sustainability at scale as identity
Ege stands for the recycled carpet.
Ege is a lesson in making sustainability at scale the identity. An ocean-and-sand palette, a nordic sans and recycled carpet make responsible making the whole maker — sustainable, clean and Danish. The sustainability is the differentiator. The differentiator is a genuine, long-standing leadership — an early environmental pioneer that turns recycled fibres, including fishing nets, into carpet, made at scale in Denmark.
Put to work, the identity is sustainability as design. A maker building in this spirit would lead on environmental standards rather than follow, keep the making at home, and be honest about its supply chain, so the customer buys into a genuine record rather than a claim. It would prove that scale and sustainability can coexist, so that a large maker can still be responsible. It would say plainly that the carpet is Danish-made while the yarn is spun elsewhere, so that the claim is precise. The lesson Ege teaches is that sustainability at scale can build a brand: the record gives it credibility, and the Danish making gives it substance. The sustainability is the personality, and the honesty is the proof.
For designers and brand-builders, Ege offers a clear takeaway: lead on sustainability and be precise about the supply chain. The lessons: recycle the fibre; make it in Denmark; prove the record; and be accurate about the story. It is also a reminder to stay precise: Ege is a family-controlled Danish maker founded in 1938 by Mads Eg Damgaard, making sustainable machine carpet from recycled fibres across four Danish units — its wool yarn spun in Lithuania — with the palette here an unofficial interpretation. Ege made the recycled carpet the maker — proof that sustainability at scale can be the difference.
