Hero section design examples

A hero section is the first screen of a landing page, and it must say what the product does and why it matters within seconds. Our examples combine a site header, a headline and subhead, two calls to action, a social-proof line and an illustrated uptime dashboard with an alert toast, across eight visual styles on desktop and mobile. Every example is an original design that comes with its HTML code and a DESIGN.md of colour, type and spacing tokens, in light and dark. Free to use and adapt.

Hero design tips

Questions

What should a hero section include?

A clear headline, a supporting subhead, a primary call to action, usually a secondary option, and a visual that shows the product or its result. A short social-proof line, such as a customer count or rating, can sit beneath the buttons if it is true.

How long should a hero headline be?

Short enough to read in a glance, usually under ten words. It should state the main benefit in plain language. Put the detail in a subhead of one or two sentences rather than stretching the headline, and avoid clever wordplay that hides what the product does.

Should the hero use an image, illustration or video?

Use whatever shows the product most clearly. A screenshot or illustrated interface suits software, photography suits physical products and a short muted loop can demonstrate motion. Avoid heavy autoplaying video that slows loading, and always keep text legible over the visual.
