The ultra-affordable folding e-bike brand

Lectric is the American maker of ultra-affordable folding e-bikes, designed in Phoenix and made in China.

Lectric closes the round as its value leader — the Phoenix brand that built a huge business on ultra-affordable folding e-bikes, bootstrapped by two founders, selling a sub-thousand-dollar folder that became one of the best-selling e-bikes in the United States. Lectric makes folding e-bikes, and its answer to a round about the electric commute is price — a genuinely cheap, foldable bike that put e-biking within reach of far more people. A brand, value.

Its identity is the ultra-affordable folding e-bike brand. The price, the folding form and the independence are the story here. A brand, value. The ultra-affordable folding e-bike brand.

(Honest notes, so the story stays precise, and the making stays honest. Lectric — Lectric eBikes, at lectricebikes.com — makes ultra-affordable folding e-bikes, with its folding model as its hero, and we report its performance and best-selling language as the brand’s own marketing. It was founded in 2019 by Levi Conlow and Robby Deziel in Phoenix, Arizona, and bootstrapped. On where it is made, the star theme of this round, it is designed in Phoenix and manufactured in China. On who owns it, a theme of this round, it is private and independent, having been built without outside ownership. Its bike designs are IP we describe but do not reproduce; there is no official brand hex; these tones are an unofficial interpretation.)

Colour

Lectric lives in an electric blue. Click a swatch to copy the hex.

Lectric’s identity is value, folding and made — an electric blue, an ink, a pale blue, a deep navy, and a paper. The palette leans electric blue and pale blue: a bright, friendly register that nods to an accessible, foldable bike rather than a loud logo colour. It signals a folding-value brand. The honest caveat: with no published brand hex, these values are an original, unofficial interpretation, not first-party colours.

The lesson is an electric blue signals a value, folding identity. Lectric’s world is a designed, accessible object. For designers, it is a reminder that an electric blue and a soft pale blue can carry a hardware brand — the tone of frame and fold. Because these tones can fail as small text, keep type dark and let the colour live in the accents, palette and band. The takeaways: hit the price; report the making straight; report claims as marketing; and treat any single hex as unofficial.

Typography

The register is a folding-value sans — value, plain, folding.

Lectric’s identity carries a value, plain, folding spirit — a value brand, not a graphics label. A folding-value sans captures the mood: clean, friendly and confident, the register of an accessible folding bike. Set in an electric-blue palette, the folding-value sans feels value and folding — exactly the personality Lectric carries. It is a designed object rather than a logo, mirroring frame and fold. (Lectric’s real bikes are things we describe but do not reproduce, and the exact typeface is not ours to use.) Because it is not ours to use, the honest description is “a folding-value-sans brand,” shown here in a stand-in. The type behaves like the brand: value, plain and folding.

The electric commute

Lectric stands for the ultra-affordable folding e-bike brand.

Lectric closes the round as its value leader. An electric-blue palette, a folding-value sans and a Phoenix origin make one thing — the ultra-affordable folding e-bike brand — the whole identity: value, folding and made. The price is the pitch, and the folding form is the proof. The point is a genuinely cheap, foldable bike that put e-biking within reach of far more people.

Put to work, the identity is price told straight, as making — with the making reported and the founders named. A maker in this spirit would hit the price, report the making straight, and report claims as marketing. A reader in this spirit would keep the facts right: Lectric makes ultra-affordable folding e-bikes, its folding model the hero; it was founded in 2019 by Levi Conlow and Robby Deziel in Phoenix, Arizona, and bootstrapped; it is designed in Phoenix and made in China; and it is private and independent, built without outside ownership. Lectric joins Aventon and Super73 on the US-designed, China-made side of the round’s where-made thread, brings the round’s value-folding angle, and stands on the independent side of the who-owns thread. The honest editorial moves are to date it to 2019, to name the founders, to report the China making, and to describe it as bootstrapped and independent. The lesson Lectric teaches is that price and access can be a whole identity, and reporting the making straight keeps it credible.

For designers and brand-builders, Lectric closes the electric commute: hit the price — and report the making straight. The lessons: make radical affordability the brand; report a designed-here, made-in-China making plainly; report performance and best-selling language as marketing; treat independence and bootstrapping as part of the identity; and never reproduce a bike. It is also a reminder to stay precise: Lectric is the American maker of ultra-affordable folding e-bikes, designed in Phoenix and made in China — with the palette here an unofficial interpretation. Read that way, Lectric is less a bike than a price: value, Phoenix-designed. The lesson for a brand is that price and honest making reinforce each other, and reporting the China manufacture keeps the story earned. Lectric made the-ultra-affordable-folding-e-bike-brand the identity — proof that price can close a round, and that radical affordability is as legitimate a design position as premium engineering, so long as the maker is as plain about the China manufacturing as the premium names are about their German assembly. And it leaves the electric commute on its clearest lesson: that across a rack of e-bikes, the two facts a reader most wants are where each is actually made and who owns the maker — genuinely-assembled Riese & Müller, the designed-here, made-in-Asia DTC brands, and the boom-and-bust arcs of VanMoof and Rad Power Bikes — an honest guide reporting each one exactly.

Editorial reference. This article reports publicly documented facts about Lectric’s visual identity as design commentary; it is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, Lectric eBikes. The Lectric name and its bike designs are IP of their owner — the graphics here are original abstract homages (colour discs and frame/fold texture swatches); no bike, frame, or logo is reproduced, and all specimen text is set in a Google-Font stand-in. Facts reported from the maker’s site (lectricebikes.com) and public record: Lectric makes ultra-affordable folding e-bikes (hero = its folding model, described as a best-selling US e-bike); founded 2019 by Levi Conlow and Robby Deziel in Phoenix, Arizona (bootstrapped). Honest notes: ⭐ it is designed in Phoenix and manufactured in China; it is private and independent (built without outside ownership); all performance/best-selling language is the brand’s own marketing. No official brand hex is used, so the tones here are an unofficial interpretation.
