The bespoke frame

Tom Davies makes glasses to measure.

Tom Davies is a lesson in bespoke tailoring as the identity. A British eyewear brand founded in 2002 in London, it makes glasses to measure — “Savile Row for glasses.”

Its identity is the bespoke frame. Tom Davies’ made-to-measure frames — in acetate, titanium, buffalo horn and precious metals — are the work it is known for, designed to a client’s exact measurements. Eyewear, tailored. Fit as the point.

(Honest notes: Tom Davies (TD Tom Davies) is a British bespoke eyewear brand founded in 2002 in London by Tom Davies, based in Brentford, West London. Its signature is bespoke, made-to-measure eyewear — opticians take a client’s measurements and co-design unique frames — in premium materials including acetate, pure titanium, natural buffalo horn and precious metals. On production, an important update: it owns its own factory, and in 2017 it repatriated production from China to its own factory in Brentford, so it can legitimately claim made in London today (China was pre-2017). On status, an honest caveat: the founding operating company entered administration in June 2025, though the brand still trades today, so we describe it as a British bespoke brand that continues to trade rather than an unqualified thriving independent. We don’t claim B Corp status, which we couldn’t verify. It is founder-led, and distinct from the footballer of the same name. There’s no official brand hex, and we reproduce no frame, the TD monogram or logo — these tones are an unofficial interpretation. This is design commentary and does not promote any product.)

Colour

Tom Davies lives in a horn-and-acetate palette. Click a swatch to copy the hex.

Tom Davies’ identity is tailored, premium and precise — a horn, an ink, a slate, an espresso, and a cream. The palette leans horn and acetate — the register of buffalo horn, fine acetate and bespoke materials. It signals craft and fit rather than novelty. The honest caveat: with no published brand hex, these tones are an original, unofficial interpretation, not first-party values.

The lesson is a horn-and-acetate palette signals bespoke tailoring. Tom Davies’ world is a tailored, premium object. For designers, it is a reminder that fit and material — made-to-measure, premium horn — can be the whole identity, and that a horn-and-acetate palette signals that craft. Because a horn tone can fail as small text, keep type dark and let the colour live in the accents, palette and band. The takeaways: make it to measure; use premium materials; own the factory; and treat any single hex as unofficial.

Typography

The register is a precision sans — clean, exact, tailored.

Tom Davies’ identity carries a clean, exact, tailored spirit — a bespoke, premium object. A precise grotesque sans captures the mood: it is exact and modern, the register of made-to-measure craft. Set in a horn-and-acetate palette, the precision sans feels clean and exact — exactly the personality Tom Davies carries. It is tailored rather than casual, mirroring bespoke fit. (Tom Davies’ real frame and wordmark are works we describe but do not reproduce, and the exact typeface is not ours to use.) Because it is not ours to use, the honest description is “a precision sans spirit,” shown here in a stand-in. The type behaves like the brand: clean, exact and tailored.

Bespoke tailoring as identity

Tom Davies stands for the bespoke frame.

Tom Davies is a lesson in tailoring eyewear to the person. A horn-and-acetate palette, a precision sans and a made-to-measure frame make bespoke tailoring the whole brand — tailored, premium, exact. The fit is the differentiator. The differentiator is measuring a client and building a unique frame around them, in premium materials, in its own factory.

Put to work, the identity is fit as the product. A designer building in this spirit would treat measurement and personalization as the core value, so the object is made for one person rather than a size chart. The lesson Tom Davies teaches is that owning the making enables the promise: repatriating production to its own London factory lets it deliver genuine bespoke at scale, and a precise, tailored design language keeps that craft legible.

For designers and brand-builders, Tom Davies offers a clear takeaway: own the factory to own the promise. The lessons: make it to measure; use premium materials; own the factory; and be honest about the story. It is also a reminder to update the facts: production moved from China to its own London factory in 2017, so “made in London” is accurate today — the palette here is an unofficial interpretation. And it is a reminder to be candid about status: the founding operating company entered administration in June 2025, though the brand still trades, so we frame it honestly rather than overstate its health. Tom Davies made the bespoke frame the brand — proof that tailoring can be the difference.

The Tom Davies name, frames, the TD monogram and wordmark are trademarks/works of their owner — the graphics here are original abstract homages (colour discs and texture swatches); no frame, monogram or logo is reproduced, and all specimen text is set in a Google-Font stand-in. Facts reported from public sources (tdtomdavies.com; Wikipedia): Tom Davies is a British bespoke eyewear brand founded in 2002 in London by Tom Davies, known for made-to-measure frames in premium materials (buffalo horn, titanium), made in its own London (Brentford) factory since production was repatriated from China in 2017. Honest notes: the founding operating company entered administration in June 2025, though the brand still trades, so it is described accordingly; B Corp status is not claimed; it is founder-led and distinct from the footballer of the same name; and no official brand hex is published, so the tones here are an unofficial interpretation.
