Dreamy, clean, Gen-Z.

Clean beauty for Gen Z
Florence by Mills built a lavender dreamworld.
Florence by Mills is a lesson in a signature colour as a brand. Launched in 2019 by Millie Bobby Brown (the Stranger Things actress, then about 15) and named after her great-grandmother Florence, it makes clean, Gen-Z-focused skincare and makeup for young, sensitive skin — vegan, cruelty-free and dermatologist-tested.
The design owns one colour: a soft lavender/lilac that runs across nearly all packaging, in a dreamy, monochromatic, minimal style. Playful, “satisfying” product textures (whale-shaped gel pads, pearl-filled masks) and GIF-friendly pastel photography make it feel youthful and Instagrammable, with poetic product names (Clean Magic Face Wash, Dreamy Dew Moisturizer).
(Honest notes: Florence by Mills was built with the celebrity-brand incubator Beach House Group (not Maesa), and the Brown family took a majority stake in 2020 (Beach House kept a minority). It’s private and has expanded into fragrance and even a packaged coffee line. There were 2022 reports of the brand being “for sale,” but no confirmed deal — it remains founder-controlled. No official brand hex is published.)
Colour
Florence lives in a lavender-led pastel palette. Click a swatch to copy the hex.
Florence by Mills’ identity is dreamy, soft and lavender-led — a lavender, a soft mint, a pale lilac, a cream, and an ink. The palette is dominated by one signature soft lavender/lilac, with soft mint and pale purple as secondary tones. It signals youthful, clean, dreamy Gen-Z beauty rather than clinical or grown-up cosmetics. The honest caveat: with no published brand hex, these tones are an original, unofficial interpretation, not first-party values.
The lesson is own one signature colour completely. Florence’s world is a soft lavender daydream. For designers, it is a reminder that committing fully to a single, ownable colour (lavender) — across nearly all packaging — makes a Gen-Z brand instantly recognisable and cohesive. The takeaways: pick one signature colour and use it everywhere; keep the mood dreamy and playful with satisfying textures; and treat any single hex as unofficial — using a deep purple for small text so the lavender stays soft.
Typography
The wordmark spirit is a friendly lowercase sans — youthful and dreamy.
Florence by Mills’ identity carries a youthful, dreamy, friendly spirit — a lowercase “florence by mills” wordmark on soft lavender packaging. A friendly, clean sans captures the mood: it is approachable and gentle, the register of a Gen-Z brand about clean, easy beauty. Set against lavender-led pastels, the friendly type feels dreamy and youthful — exactly the soft, playful personality Florence carries. It is gentle rather than clinical, mirroring satisfying, playful textures. (Florence by Mills’ real wordmark is a trademark and trade dress we describe but do not reproduce, and the exact typeface is not published, so we don’t assert it.) Because the specific mark is not ours to use, the honest description is “a friendly lowercase spirit,” not the Florence logo. The type behaves like the brand: youthful, dreamy and friendly.

One colour, owned
Florence stands for the lavender dream.
Florence by Mills is a lesson in owning a single colour completely. In a crowded Gen-Z beauty market, Florence made soft lavender its whole signature — nearly every product, every shot, dreamy and monochromatic — so the brand is recognisable at a glance. A young founder plus one committed colour created instant cohesion. The differentiator is total commitment to one signature colour.
For designers and brand-builders, Florence offers a clear takeaway: one owned colour can be a brand’s strongest asset. The lessons: pick a signature colour and commit everywhere; keep the mood dreamy, clean and playful for a young audience; and use satisfying, shareable textures. It is also a reminder to stay accurate: Florence was built with incubator Beach House Group, is majority-owned by the Brown family since 2020, and remains private and founder-controlled — with the palette here an unofficial interpretation. Florence owned lavender — proof that one colour can be the difference.
