Il Fanale Brand Guidelines
The hand in the light.

Two constants: a brass-and-patina palette and a warm artisanal serif register. Abstract homage — not an Il Fanale fixture or wordmark.
The hand in the light
Il Fanale makes handcrafted metal-and-glass lighting in the Veneto.
Il Fanale is a lesson in the hand as the identity. An Italian decorative-lighting house from the Veneto, near Treviso, it works brass, copper and iron by hand — with Murano glass and Bassano ceramics — into lanterns and fixtures that bridge the traditional and the contemporary. The craft, not the machine, is the point.
Its identity is the hand in the light. Il Fanale’s handcrafted metal-and-glass pieces — antiqued, patinated, made by artisans — are the work it is known for. Craft, made a lamp. A family workshop that keeps the human touch.
(Honest notes, so the story stays precise. Il Fanale was founded in 1979 by Fausto Dalla Torre and his wife Luisa Martin as a small lamp workshop near Treviso; it is now run by the second generation, Marzia and Tomas Dalla Torre, who joined in 2004 and have led it since 2015. On production, it is genuinely made in Italy, in-house in the Veneto, worked by hand in brass, copper and iron — though we don’t claim that every last component, without exception, is made in-house. On ownership, it is independent and family-owned; a clarification worth making is that “Il Fanale Group” is simply the family company’s own name, not a multi-brand conglomerate, and the separate maker Aldo Bernardi — another Treviso-area artisanal house often shown alongside it — is a distinct, independent company, not a sibling brand. Its materials include Murano glass and Bassano ceramics, both culturally significant Veneto crafts we describe respectfully. Its designer collaborations — from its Euroluce 2025 collections, such as Pantarhei by Pierattelli Architetture and Dune by Sara Moroni — are their IP, described but never reproduced, and there is no official brand hex — these tones are an unofficial interpretation. This is design commentary and does not promote any product.)
Colour
Il Fanale lives in a brass-and-patina palette. Click a swatch to copy the hex.
Il Fanale’s identity is warm, worked and traditional — a brass, an ink, a patina green, a graphite, and a cream. The palette leans brass and patina: the register of hand-worked metal and aged finish. It signals craft and heritage over gloss. The honest caveat: with no published brand hex, these values are an original, unofficial interpretation, not first-party colours.
The lesson is a brass-and-patina palette signals a craft identity. Il Fanale’s world is a warm, worked, traditional object. For designers, it is a reminder that a palette drawn from worked metal — the warmth of brass, the green of patina — can carry a brand built on the hand. Because a mid brass can fail as small text, keep type dark and let the colour live in the accents, palette and band. The takeaways: work by hand; use noble materials; keep the making local; and treat any single hex as unofficial.
Typography
The register is a warm artisanal serif — crafted, traditional, warm.
Il Fanale’s identity carries a crafted, traditional, warm spirit — a worked object, not a slick one. A warm artisanal serif captures the mood: characterful, a little old-world and hand-made, the register of a heritage workshop. Set in a brass-and-patina palette, the warm artisanal serif feels crafted and traditional — exactly the personality Il Fanale carries. It is characterful rather than clinical, mirroring a hand-worked, patinated lamp. (Il Fanale’s real fixtures, its designers’ works and its wordmark are things we describe but do not reproduce, and the exact typeface is not ours to use.) Because it is not ours to use, the honest description is “a warm-artisanal-serif spirit,” shown here in a stand-in. The type behaves like the brand: crafted, traditional and warm.

The hand as identity
Il Fanale stands for the hand in the light.
Il Fanale is a lesson in making the hand the identity. A brass-and-patina palette, a warm artisanal serif and hand-worked metal-and-glass fixtures make craft the whole brand — warm, traditional and worked. The hand is the differentiator. The differentiator is genuine artisanal making — brass, copper, iron and glass worked by hand in the Veneto — bridging traditional forms and contemporary design.
Put to work, the identity is craft as design. A house building in this spirit would keep the making by hand and close to home, use noble, honest materials, and let the artisan’s touch show, so the customer buys into craft and heritage rather than a mass-produced fixture. The lesson Il Fanale teaches is that real craft plus a coherent heritage can build a brand: the hand gives it warmth and character, and the local workshop gives it integrity. The hand is the personality, and the craft is the proof.
For designers and brand-builders, Il Fanale offers a clear takeaway: keep the hand in the work. The lessons: work by hand; use noble materials; make it locally; and be honest about the story. It is also a reminder to stay accurate: Il Fanale was founded in 1979 near Treviso, is an independent second-generation family firm — “Il Fanale Group” is its own name, not a conglomerate, and Aldo Bernardi is a separate company — and it is genuinely made in Italy in-house, with Murano glass and Bassano ceramics described respectfully; its designers’ collections are described but never reproduced, and the palette here is an unofficial interpretation. Il Fanale made the hand the brand — proof that craft can be the difference.
