Sera Helsinki Brand Guidelines
The highland weave.

Two constants: a brown-and-ecru palette and a minimal sans register. Abstract homage — not a Sera Helsinki rug or wordmark.
The highland weave
Sera Helsinki designs minimalist rugs in Finland, handwoven in the Ethiopian highlands.
Sera Helsinki is a lesson in a social mission as the identity. A Finnish brand, it makes minimalist Nordic rugs — designed in Helsinki and handwoven in the highlands of Ethiopia by local artisans, in a fair-employment model that hires the most vulnerable. A rug, woven to give work.
Its identity is the highland weave. Sera Helsinki’s Ethiopian-woven, undyed-wool rugs, and its social model, are the work it is known for. A mission, made a signature. A brand whose name means “work.”
(Honest notes, so the story stays precise. Sera Helsinki was founded around 2016 by two Finns, Anna Suoheimo and Hanna Puharinen — not the names sometimes given — who met at Aalto University; its name comes from the Amharic word for work. It designs in Finland, but its rugs are genuinely handwoven in the highlands of northern Ethiopia — never in Finland — in a social-impact model that employs people who are often overlooked, including weavers who are blind and single mothers, at fair wages. Its wool is undyed Ethiopian highland lambswool, in natural black, white and brown, with no chemical dyes. Its designs and name are its IP, described but never reproduced, and there is no official brand hex — these tones are an unofficial interpretation. This is design commentary and does not promote any product.)
Colour
Sera Helsinki lives in a brown-and-ecru palette. Click a swatch to copy the hex.
Sera Helsinki’s identity is natural, calm and honest — a highland brown, an ink, an ecru, a charcoal, and a chalk. The palette leans brown and ecru: the register of undyed highland wool in its natural shades. It signals honesty and craft over show. The honest caveat: with no published brand hex, these values are an original, unofficial interpretation, not first-party colours.
The lesson is a brown-and-ecru palette signals a natural, honest identity. Sera Helsinki’s world is a natural, undyed, Ethiopian-woven object. For designers, it is a reminder that undyed natural wool can carry a brand built on a mission — the brown and ecru of highland sheep. Because these tones can fail as small text, keep type dark and let the colour live in the accents, palette and band. The takeaways: weave to give work; use no dyes; be honest about where; and treat any single hex as unofficial.
Typography
The register is a minimal sans — clean, calm, honest.
Sera Helsinki’s identity carries a clean, calm, honest spirit — a natural object with a purpose. A minimal sans captures the mood: even, spare and quiet, the register of a minimalist, undyed rug. Set in a brown-and-ecru palette, the minimal sans feels clean and calm — exactly the personality Sera Helsinki carries. It is honest rather than loud, mirroring a natural-wool, socially-made rug. (Sera Helsinki’s real rugs and wordmark are things we describe but do not reproduce, and the exact typeface is not ours to use.) Because it is not ours to use, the honest description is “a minimal-sans spirit,” shown here in a stand-in. The type behaves like the maker: clean, calm and honest.

A social mission as identity
Sera Helsinki stands for the highland weave.
Sera Helsinki is a lesson in making a social mission the identity. A brown-and-ecru palette, a minimal sans and Ethiopian-woven rugs make a mission the whole maker — natural, calm and honest. The mission is the differentiator. The differentiator is a genuine model — designing in Finland and weaving in Ethiopia to give fair, stable work to people who are usually excluded, from undyed local wool.
Put to work, the identity is a mission as design. A maker building in this spirit would build its supply chain around people rather than only cost, name plainly where its rugs are woven, and let a natural material tell the truth, so the customer buys into a purpose rather than a slogan. It would treat fair employment of the vulnerable as the point, so that the rug carries a life changed. It would use no dyes, so that the material is as honest as the model. The lesson Sera Helsinki teaches is that a genuine social mission can build a brand: the purpose gives it meaning, and the Ethiopian weaving gives it substance. The mission is the personality, and the honesty is the proof.
For designers and brand-builders, Sera Helsinki offers a clear takeaway: build the mission into the supply chain. The lessons: weave to give work; keep it undyed; name where it is woven; and be accurate about the story. It is also a reminder to stay precise: Sera Helsinki is a Finnish brand founded around 2016 by Anna Suoheimo and Hanna Puharinen, designing minimalist rugs handwoven from undyed wool in the Ethiopian highlands — with the palette here an unofficial interpretation. Sera Helsinki made the highland weave the maker — proof that a social mission can be the difference.
