ystudio Brand Guidelines
The weight of words.

Two constants: a brass-and-patina palette and an industrial sans register. Abstract homage — not the ystudio pen or packaging.
The weight of words
ystudio makes brass pens that age with you.
ystudio is a lesson in material and meaning as identity. Founded in 2012 in Taiwan — beginning as a two-person studio — it built a brand on heavy metal objects and a single idea: “the weight of words.”
Its identity is brass that ages. Brass is, in the brand’s words, “the leading character” in every design (alongside copper and a resin line), often built on a hexagon motif; left unlacquered, it develops a patina with use, so the object changes over time — the point captured by its “Brassing” series. The aesthetic is heavy, minimalist and industrial-luxe, made to be owned for a lifetime. And the philosophy — “the weight of words” — runs through everything, down to a brand film of the same name.
(Honest notes: the founder isn’t publicly named, so we don’t assert one; the year is 2012 (per the brand), and it’s Taiwan-based (we don’t assert a specific city). The “the metal ageing is the point” framing is the widely-reported premise behind the Brassing series rather than a captured brand quote. There’s no official brand hex, so these tones are an unofficial interpretation. This is design commentary and does not promote any product.)
Colour
ystudio lives in a brass-and-patina palette. Click a swatch to copy the hex.
ystudio’s identity is heavy, industrial and material — a brass, an ink, a patina green, a copper, and a bone. The palette pairs a brass with a patina green — the register of raw metal beginning to oxidise. It signals material and ageing rather than gloss. The honest caveat: with no published brand hex, these tones are an original, unofficial interpretation, not first-party values.
The lesson is a brass with a patina green signals a metal-that-ages brand. ystudio’s world is a heavy brass object that records its use. For designers, it is a reminder that a metal-and-patina palette reads as industrial and enduring — right for a brand that wants the object to change over time. The takeaways: source the palette from the material (brass, copper, patina); leave it raw so it ages; keep the form minimal and heavy; and treat any single hex as unofficial.
Typography
The register is an industrial sans — heavy, minimal, austere.
ystudio’s identity carries a heavy, minimal, austere spirit — a raw brass object and a lifetime intent. An industrial grotesque sans captures the mood: it is solid and austere, the register of machined metal. Set in a brass-and-patina palette, the industrial sans feels heavy and minimal — exactly the personality ystudio carries. It is austere rather than decorative, mirroring a raw metal pen. (ystudio’s real pens and lowercase wordmark are works we describe but do not reproduce, and the exact typeface is not ours to use.) Because it is not ours to use, the honest description is “an industrial sans spirit,” shown here in a stand-in. The type behaves like the brand: heavy, minimal and austere.

Material as identity
ystudio stands for brass that ages with use.
ystudio is a lesson in making material the identity. A brass-and-patina palette, an industrial sans and a metal-that-ages object make material the whole brand — heavy, minimal, austere. The material is the differentiator. The differentiator is a raw-brass, ageing identity.
For designers and brand-builders, ystudio offers a clear takeaway: let the material live and change. The lessons: choose a material that ages (raw brass); leave it unlacquered; keep the form minimal and heavy; and anchor it to an idea (“the weight of words”). It is also a reminder to stay accurate: it’s a 2012 Taiwan studio, brass-led (with copper and resin), and the palette here is an unofficial interpretation. ystudio made ageing metal the brand — proof that a living material can be the difference.
