Metadata is removed by default (uncheck to keep EXIF). PNG keeps transparency; JPEG/WebP/AVIF use a white background when enabled. AVIF output requires a modern browser. Files never leave your device.

How do I compress an image to 500KB?
Drop the image in and click “Compress & download”. The target is preset to 500 KB, and the tool lowers quality and, if needed, dimensions until the file is under that size.
Will my file be exactly 500KB?
It will be just under 500 KB. The tool aims about 3% below the limit so the file passes upload checks whether a site counts 1 KB as 1,000 or 1,024 bytes.
Is 500KB enough for a good-quality photo?
Yes. At typical screen sizes most photos look excellent at 500 KB; only very large camera images are scaled down to fit.
Which format compresses smallest?
JPG (or WebP) reaches small sizes with the best quality for photos. PNG is lossless, so very small PNG targets mostly work by shrinking the image dimensions — switch the output to JPG if the result looks too small.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Compression happens entirely in your browser, so photos, IDs and signatures never leave your device.
