Compress Video

Compress video online for free — reduce the size of MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV files by choosing a quality level or an exact target size in MB, and optionally lower the resolution to 1080p, 720p or 480p. Everything runs in your browser with hardware encoding: no upload, no watermark, no sign-up.

100% private — your video is processed on your device, never uploaded. Conversion happens on your device; nothing is uploaded.

100% private — runs in your browser

Processing uses your browser’s built-in video encoders (WebCodecs) through the open-source Mediabunny library — your video is never uploaded. Works best in recent Chrome, Edge and Safari; the output is kept in memory, so very large files (several GB) may need a computer with plenty of RAM.

How to compress a video

  1. Drop your video in the box.
  2. Choose Balanced, Strong or a target size in MB, and a maximum resolution.

Frequently asked questions

How do I compress a video to a specific size?

Choose “Target file size…”, enter the size in MB (for example 25 for Discord or email), and click Compress video. The bitrate is calculated from the video's length to land just under your target.

Will compressing reduce quality?

Some, but Balanced keeps videos looking good at a fraction of the size. Lowering the resolution to 720p is the most effective way to shrink long videos while keeping them sharp.

What format is the compressed video?

MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio — it plays everywhere.

Is my video uploaded?

No. The video is read and encoded by your own browser using its built-in video encoders, so it never leaves your device — even large or private videos stay private.

Is there a file size limit?

There's no upload limit. The finished video is held in memory before download, so files up to a few GB work on most computers; very large files need more RAM.

Which browsers work?

Recent Chrome, Edge and Safari work best (they have hardware video encoders). Firefox 130+ works for most files.
