Diamond Painting Maker

Turn your photo into a custom diamond painting chart for free. Choose round (2.8 mm) or square (2.5 mm) drills and a canvas size, and the tool works out how many drills fit, reduces your picture to the colours you choose, and gives each colour a symbol, the nearest DMC number and a drill count. To be clear, this page makes a printable chart. It is not a kit: we do not sell or ship canvases or drills. If you want everything in a box, a kit seller is the better choice. If you want to plan a design, check what a photo will look like or build your own project, the chart is free, with no sign-up and no watermark, and your picture never leaves your browser.

100% private — everything runs in your browser. The chart is made on your device with our own code; your picture is never uploaded.

This makes a printable chart, not a kit. You get a free PDF chart with symbols and drill counts. We do not sell or ship canvases or drills, so you would buy those yourself, or use a kit seller if you want it all in a box.

How to make a custom diamond painting chart from a photo

  1. Upload a photo, or try the sample sunset.
  2. Choose round or square drills and a canvas size.
  3. Choose how the picture fits the canvas and how many colours to use.
  4. Check the chart or the finished drill look; tap squares to fix them, and merge colours you do not need.

Getting the best from your photo

  • Crop close to faces: a 30 × 40 cm canvas holds about 15,194 round drills, far fewer points than a photo has pixels.
  • Choose the largest canvas you can; it gives each face more drills.
  • Pick a photo with good light and a plain background.
  • Use the finished drill look to judge the result at arm’s length.
  • Merge colours used by only a few drills to save buying them.

Frequently asked questions

Does this page sell custom diamond painting kits?

No. It makes a free printable chart. There is no canvas, no drills and nothing to ship. If you want a ready-to-use kit from your photo, buy one from a kit seller; this chart can help you preview your photo first.

Is it free? Is my photo uploaded?

Yes, it is free with no account and no watermark. Your photo is read and converted in your browser, and nothing is sent to a server.

What sizes are diamond painting drills?

The usual sizes are 2.8 mm for round drills and 2.5 mm for square drills, and those are the sizes this tool uses. Check yours, as some makers differ a little.

How many drills do I need?

A square-drill canvas of 40 × 60 cm takes 160 × 240 drills, or 38,400 in all. The tool counts them colour by colour and adds spare drills (10% unless you change it).

Round or square drills?

Square drills sit edge to edge for a full mosaic and fit more detail in the same area. Round drills are placed in any direction and leave small gaps, and many people like their sparkle.

Is the chart printed at the true size?

Yes, on the default True size setting: each square is one drill. Print at 100% or Actual size and check that the bar on each sheet measures 50 mm. Real drills vary a little, so test a row before you commit.

Can I place drills straight on a printout?

Not on plain paper, because drills need a sticky surface. Use the chart as a guide on a tray or board, or ask a print shop about printing the one-big-page PDF on an adhesive material. We have not tested specific papers, so try a small piece first.

Are the DMC numbers exact?

No. They are approximate on-screen matches from an open colour list, and drill makers’ colours vary. Check them against real drills before you buy. Made Good Designs is not affiliated with DMC.

What size canvas suits my photo?

Bigger is better for faces and groups, because more drills hold more detail. Crop close to the subject, and switch on the finished drill look to judge it before you print.

How many colours should I use?

Around 30 is a good start for a photo. Simple pictures need fewer. The tool allows up to 60, the most it can give distinct symbols.
