Premium for all

Two actors, three partners and a Walmart launch.

Hello Bello launched on 25 February 2019. Walmart’s announcement that day, datelined Los Angeles, said the new line of plant-derived baby necessities was available exclusively in Walmart stores, on Walmart.com and on HelloBello.com. It named the founders as the actors Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard, a married couple, together with Sean Kane and Jay McGraw, the company’s co-chief executives, and Jennifer Pullen, its chief financial and operating officer. The Baylor Lariat reported in November 2021 that the company was headquartered in Los Angeles.

The first range reached beyond the nursery. Walmart’s release listed diapers and wipes alongside shampoo and body wash, bubble bath, baby lotion, sunscreen, bug spray and laundry detergent, several of them in scents named vanilla apricot, lavender and apple blossom. The diapers, the release said, would arrive in a set of printed designs, with more of them online than in stores.

The pitch was about price as much as product. “Parents shouldn’t have to choose between what’s good for their baby and good for their budget,” Shepard said in the release, calling Walmart the exclusive retail partner that made a non-premium price possible. Melody Richard, Walmart’s vice-president of baby, described the line in the same announcement as “a fun, exclusive and affordable option” for parents. In an interview published by Walmart alongside the launch, Bell and Shepard said they had partnered with the retailer so that premium baby products could be sold at an affordable price to all parents.

The idea became the company’s motto. The law firm Lowenstein Sandler, writing in December 2023, said Hello Bello’s mission “from inception” had been “Premium for All”. Lowenstein added that, under Hildred, the brand would continue to be sold both in retailers and online throughout the United States.

From Los Angeles to Waco, and to Hildred.

The company soon moved into making its own diapers. On 16 December 2020 the Waco television station KWTX reported that Hello Bello would open its first wholly owned diaper distribution and manufacturing centre in Waco, Texas, in a former Domtar facility on Texas Central Parkway. Kane and McGraw, the station noted, were Texas natives. The Baylor Lariat later quoted the company’s publicists as saying the site was chosen for its central location and its access to suppliers and freight carriers.

The plant opened on 26 October 2021. KWTX reported the next day that all five co-founders attended the grand opening, and that instead of cutting a ribbon Bell cut a rope of diapers. Both KWTX and the Lariat said the Magnolia design team had helped create the facility.

The business then changed hands. Supply Chain Dive reported on 26 October 2023 that Unconditional Love Inc., which did business as Hello Bello, had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in order to facilitate an acquisition by the private equity firm Hildred Capital Management; the report said that, before opening its Texas plant, the company had relied on a third-party manufacturer, Irving.

The sale went through at the end of the year. Lowenstein Sandler, which advised Hildred, announced on 19 December 2023 that it had represented the healthcare-focused firm in its acquisition of the business of Hello Bello, and that Hildred intended to place the brand under the stewardship of Hyland’s Naturals, another company in its portfolio. Retail Dive reported on 17 January 2024 that the deal had closed in December, that Hildred had acquired Hyland’s Naturals in 2020, and that Hyland’s chief executive, Will Righeimer, had been named to lead Hello Bello as well, in a dual role. Hildred Capital Management has owned Hello Bello since 2023.

The brand’s own website, in October 2026, said Hello Bello was “proud to be part of the Hyland’s family of care.”

Design and documentation.

Baby-care brands live on a small set of containers: the squeeze tube, the wide screw-top tub, the pump bottle and the printed diaper pack. Each one leaves only a little room for a name, so the identity has to work at the size of a changing-table shelf as well as on a store fixture, and it is often read from across a room or upside down in a bag.

Because many of these names have changed owners several times, the pack is frequently the steadiest thing about them. A tube may carry the same word through decades in which the company printed on the back has changed, and a refreshed logo or a new colour band is often the only visible sign that a business has been sold. That makes the plain questions worth asking: who made the product originally, who owns the name now, and how its labels have changed.

Each guide separates what independent, dated sources record from what a company says about itself — its founding story, its owners over time and its packaging — and describes products by name and category only.

Designed for real life

A rhyming name, printed diapers and a made-in-Texas claim.

The name does much of the work. Hello Bello is two short words that rhyme. Walmart’s launch release used it with a trademark symbol, and the company’s website in 2026 uses it in its copyright line and in the title of its “Made in the USA” page.

The diapers themselves carry the brand’s visual voice. Walmart’s launch release in February 2019 said Hello Bello diapers would arrive in a range of printed designs, with a larger selection online than in stores. Walmart’s release also said the diapers would be sold online through HelloBello.com as well as through the retailer.

The words around the brand have stayed close to the founders’ pitch. Shepard’s line at launch set budget beside baby; the company’s mission, in Lowenstein Sandler’s account, was “Premium for All”; and the brand’s website in October 2026 carried the line “Designed for real life.” The same site presents a “Made in the USA” page saying its diapers are “proudly produced in Texas for families everywhere,” and that its manufacturing line uses cameras to capture images of each diaper; those are the company’s own claims.

The founders remain part of the story even after the change of owner. Retail Dive’s report on the new chief executive in January 2024 still described Hello Bello as the baby brand founded by Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard, and the brand’s copyright line in 2026 reads simply “Hello Bello,” while its website places it within the Hyland’s family.

For a design guide, Hello Bello shows how a short, rhyming name and a single retail launch can carry a brand through a factory build, a bankruptcy sale and a move into a private equity portfolio. Compare The Honest Company, another American baby-care brand, and Pampers, the Procter & Gamble diaper. For this guide we use sunny yellow and blush with night navy with a rounded sans, an unofficial interpretation; no product or logo is reproduced.
