The soda that was a design object

United Sodas of America is the colour-blocked design-darling soda — now dormant, and not trading direct-to-consumer.

United Sodas of America brings the round its purest design story — the better-for-you soda whose colour-blocked slim cans, a full spectrum lined up on a shelf, made it a design-press darling, and which is now, honestly, dormant, its direct-to-consumer store no longer operating. United Sodas made a range of sodas, and its answer to a round about the new drinks aisle is the can as a design object: a soda remembered as much for its design as its drink. A brand, as a spectrum.

Its identity is the soda that was a design object. United Sodas’ colour-blocked cans, its design fame and its now-dormant status are the story here. A brand, designed. The soda that was a design object.

(Honest notes, so the story stays precise, and the status stays honest. United Sodas of America is a real, trademark-protected brand, a better-for-you soda of around thirty calories and eight grams of organic sugar per can, in a twelve-flavour range of unusual pairings, in slim cans. But it is not currently trading direct-to-consumer: as of 2026, its site is a new-site-coming-soon placeholder, its archived storefront was under construction with a footer rebranded United Sodas Wholesale, and its social has had no first-party post since about April 2025, so we frame it honestly as a design-led brand currently dormant and not trading direct-to-consumer, apparently repositioning toward wholesale, last visibly active around 2025, and we do not imply it is a thriving, purchasable brand today. It was founded in 2020 in the United States, and we do not name a founder, which we could not verify, or assert a specific city. The design is the reason to feature it: minimalist, colour-blocked slim cans, each flavour a single saturated flat colour that reads as a spectrum lined up, with a spare typographic lockup and a playful We the People of the United Sodas of America constitution voice, its own creative device we describe but do not build our own patriotic iconography around. Its name, wordmark, colour system and Americana voice are IP we describe but do not reproduce; there is no official brand hex; these tones are an unofficial interpretation. This is design commentary.)

Colour

United Sodas lives in a soft coral. Click a swatch to copy the hex.

United Sodas’ identity is designed, colourful and spectrum-like — a soft coral, an ink, a peach, a deep coral, and a paper. The palette leans soft coral and peach: a bright, restrained register that nods to a single saturated colour field and a slim can rather than a loud palette. It signals a design-object soda. The honest caveat: with no published brand hex, these values are an original, unofficial interpretation, not first-party colours, and stand in for one hue of a whole spectrum.

The lesson is a soft coral signals a designed, colour-blocked identity. United Sodas’ world is a designed, made object. For designers, it is a reminder that a soft coral and a soft peach can carry a drink brand — the tone of a colour field. Because these tones can fail as small text, keep type dark and let the colour live in the accents, palette and band. The takeaways: make the can a design object; build a spectrum; be honest about status; and treat any single hex as unofficial.

Typography

The register is a spectrum sans — designed, restrained, plain.

United Sodas’ identity carries a designed, restrained, plain spirit — a design-object soda, not a fashion. A spectrum sans captures the mood: clean, restrained and confident, the register of a colour-blocked can. Set in a soft-coral palette, the spectrum sans feels designed and restrained — exactly the personality United Sodas carries. It is a spectrum rather than a logo, mirroring a colour field. (United Sodas’ real colour-block lockup is a thing we describe but do not reproduce, and the exact typeface is not ours to use.) Because it is not ours to use, the honest description is “a spectrum-sans spirit,” shown here in a stand-in. The type behaves like the brand: designed, restrained and plain.

The new drinks aisle

United Sodas stands for the soda that was a design object.

United Sodas brings the round its purest design story. A soft-coral palette, a spectrum sans and a colour-blocked can make one thing — the soda that was a design object — the whole identity: designed, colourful and spectrum-like. The colour-blocked cans are the design, and the now-dormant status is the honest coda. The point is a soda remembered as a design-press darling for a spectrum of colour-coded slim cans, now no longer trading direct-to-consumer.

Put to work, the identity is a design-object story told straight, as design. A maker in this spirit would make the can a design object, build a spectrum, and be honest about status. A reader in this spirit would keep the facts right: United Sodas was founded in 2020 in the United States; it made a twelve-flavour range of better-for-you sodas in slim cans; its design was minimalist, colour-blocked slim cans reading as a spectrum, with a playful Americana voice; but it is currently dormant, its site a coming-soon placeholder, apparently repositioning to wholesale, last visibly active around 2025, so it is not a purchasable brand today; and its founder is unverified. United Sodas sits in the round’s design-object thread with Jarritos and Seedlip, and its honest-status thread with Guayakí’s rename. The honest editorial moves are to state the dormant status plainly, to not name an unverified founder, to describe the colour-block design as the value, and to not reproduce the lockup. The lesson United Sodas teaches is that a design object can be a whole identity, and honesty about a dormant status keeps it credible.

For designers and brand-builders, United Sodas continues the new drinks aisle: make the can a design object — and be honest about status. The lessons: treat packaging as a design object; build a colour spectrum across a range; state a dormant or transitioning status plainly; do not name an unverified founder; and never reproduce a lockup. It is also a reminder to stay precise: United Sodas of America is the colour-blocked design-darling soda, now dormant and not trading direct-to-consumer — with the palette here an unofficial interpretation. Read that way, United Sodas is less a soda than a spectrum: a design object now at rest. The lesson for a brand is that a design object and honest status reinforce each other, and stating the dormancy keeps the story earned. United Sodas made the-soda-that-was-a-design-object the identity — proof that a design object can define a brand.

Source & notes

Editorial reference. This article reports publicly documented facts about United Sodas of America’s visual identity as design commentary, not promotion; it is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, United Sodas of America, Inc. The “United Sodas of America” name (a registered trademark), wordmark, colour system and Americana brand voice are IP of their owner — the graphics here are original abstract homages (colour discs and colour-block texture swatches); no can, lockup or logo is reproduced, and all specimen text is set in a Google-Font stand-in. Facts reported from the maker’s (archived and current) site and public sources: United Sodas made a better-for-you soda (~30 calories, 8g organic sugar per can; a 12-flavour range in slim cans), celebrated for minimalist, colour-blocked slim-can design (a full spectrum when lined up); founded 2020 in the USA (founder name unverified and not stated; NY HQ reported but not confirmed). Honest notes: as of 2026 it is NOT trading direct-to-consumer — unitedsodas.com is a “new site coming soon” placeholder; its archived storefront was “under construction” with a footer rebranded “United Sodas Wholesale”; its social has had no first-party post since ~April 2025 — so this article frames it as a design-led brand currently dormant / not trading DTC (apparently repositioning to wholesale; last visibly active ~2025), not a thriving, purchasable brand today. No official brand hex is used, so the tones here are an unofficial interpretation.
