Thirty-five brand guides to cooking and heating with fire — grills and smokers, pizza ovens, camp stoves and wood-burning stoves.
Fire is an old business with a lot of recent consolidation. These guides set out who owns each brand and where it is made.
Two big grill families
Many grill brands now belong to a few groups. Middleby owns Kamado Joe, Masterbuilt and Lynx; the family-run W.C. Bradley Co. owns Char-Broil, Pit Boss and Oklahoma Joe’s; and Weber, taken private by BDT Capital in 2023, merged with Blackstone in 2025. Napoleon, by contrast, is family-owned in Barrie, Ontario, and Broil King is still built in North America by Canada’s Onward Manufacturing.
Foundries and family stove makers
Wood stoves and camp stoves have deeper roots. Morsø and Jøtul have both cast iron stoves since 1853; Charnwood still makes its stoves on the Isle of Wight; Trangia has built its storm cooker in the same Swedish village since 1925; and Primus made the first pressurised, soot-free kerosene stove in 1892.
Pizza ovens
Pizza ovens mix both stories: Alfa Forni and Clementi are Italian family firms, Gozney a British design-led newcomer, and Solo Stove’s parent went public before moving to over-the-counter trading.
How to use these guides
Each guide covers who owns the name today, where the products are made — by the maker’s own account and, where it differs, by other sources — and the brand’s visual identity. A company’s description of itself is attributed to the company, and where a business has closed we say so plainly. The table at the end gathers the essentials.
Grills and smokers
Gas, charcoal, pellet and griddle brands.
- Kamado Joe — The modern ceramic kamado grill built around a modular multi-tier cooking system, now part of the public Middleby roll-up.
- Masterbuilt — The Georgia smoker company that mainstreamed the digital electric smoker and reinvented charcoal with its gravity-fed series, now part of Middleby.
- Char-Broil — The mass-market American grill brand that grew out of a Columbus, Georgia iron foundry and is owned by the private, family-run W.C. Bradley Co.
- Pit Boss — The value-leader pellet grill brand from Canada’s Dansons, built on wood by-products and now owned by W.C. Bradley Co.
- Recteq — The Georgia direct-to-consumer pellet grill brand, born in a garage in 2009 and now backed by private-equity investor Norwest.
- Blackstone — The Utah brand that built and led the backyard flat-top griddle category, now part of Weber Blackstone after a 2025 merger.
- Broil King — The premium gas grill from Canada’s century-old, family-owned Onward Manufacturing, still built in North America.
More grill makers
Further grill and smoker brands, from Weber to Napoleon.
- Weber — The American maker of the 1952 charcoal kettle grill, taken public on the NYSE in 2021 and then private again by BDT Capital in 2023.
- Napoleon — The family-owned Canadian maker from Barrie, Ontario, whose gas grills and fireplaces carry a name taken from Napoleon brandy, not the emperor.
- Blackstone — The American brand of North Atlantic Imports that popularised the outdoor flat-top gas griddle and turned it into a category of its own.
- Lynx — The American maker of premium built-in outdoor grills, owned by Middleby’s Composition Brands luxury portfolio alongside Kamado Joe and Viking.
- Coleman — The storied American camping brand of lanterns, stoves and portable grills, now owned by Newell Brands after arriving through the Jarden acquisition.
- Green Mountain Grills — The independent American maker of Wi-Fi-connected wood-pellet grills and smokers, a self-made challenger in the pellet category.
- Oklahoma Joe’s — The American offset-smoker brand founded by Joe Davidson, now a product line of Char-Broil, part of the family-owned W.C. Bradley Co.
Pizza ovens
Outdoor pizza-oven makers.
- Alfa Forni — The family-run Italian oven maker whose refractory tile is still fired in the same Anagni kiln to a fifty-year-old recipe.
- Clementi — The Italian family firm whose founder pioneered indirect wood-fired ovens, whose copper-clad Pulcinella dresses a Neapolitan oven as furniture.
- Gozney — The British design-led oven maker, born of its founder’s recovery, whose Roccbox cracked open home pizza-oven ownership.
- Everdure — A heritage Australian appliance name revived by Shriro and paired with Heston Blumenthal, where the design and the chef’s name are the product.
- Witt — The Danish brand house whose ETNA Rotante uses a 360-degree rotating stone to bake an even pizza, from a family-run Herning appliance company.
- Solo Stove — The smokeless-fire-pit brand whose backyard virality took its parent public at ~$2B, then off the NYSE to over-the-counter trading by 2026.
- Bertello — The Shark Tank pizza oven from two engineer-and-finance brothers that refuses to make you choose your fuel: wood, charcoal, pellet or gas.
Camp stoves
Camp stoves and outdoor fire.
- Jetboil — The New Hampshire brand that created the integrated canister stove, now owned by public outdoor company Johnson Outdoors.
- Primus — The Swedish maker of the first pressurized, soot-free kerosene stove in 1892, the expedition stove of the polar age, now owned by the Silva Group.
- Trangia — The family-owned Swedish maker whose windproof alcohol “storm cooker” has been built in the same village since 1925.
- Soto — The made-in-Japan outdoor-stove brand of torch-burner maker Shinfuji Burner, whose micro-regulator keeps the flame steady in cold and wind.
- BioLite — The Brooklyn company whose wood-burning CampStove generates electricity, and whose gear funds off-grid energy access in emerging markets.
- Camp Chef — The Utah camp-cooking brand of modular stoves and pellet grills, carried from Vista Outdoor into Revelyst and private-equity ownership.
- Breeo — The independent Pennsylvania maker of smokeless fire pits that says it handcrafts its pits in Lancaster from American steel.

- Rais — The minimalist Danish design-stove maker in Frederikshavn, genuinely Danish-made but owned by Switzerland’s Attika group.
- Stûv — The Belgian design house whose rotating-drum Stûv 30 is three fires in one stove, founder-run with minority private-equity backing since 2024.
- Contura — The contemporary Swedish stove brand of the publicly-listed NIBE Group, made in Markaryd on Handöl’s heritage.
- Charnwood — The British wood-stove maker founded on the Isle of Wight in 1972, still family-owned by A.J. Wells & Sons and made on the island.
