Library Card Template
Make library cards for a classroom, a book club or the books on your own shelves. Choose the classic date due card, a card with due and returned columns, a “From the library of” card, or a membership card the size of a bank card. Type the author and title, stamp the dates in purple or red ink, and add a book pocket to cut and fold. Paste a list of books or names and you get one card for each, on US Letter or A4 with crop marks, or as 300 DPI PNG files. Free, with no sign-up and no watermark. The names in the sample are invented.

How to make library cards
- Choose a card: date due, due and returned, from the library of, or membership card.
- Type the library name, author, title and call number. Membership cards take a name and a number.
- To stamp dates, pick the day the book is lent, the loan in days and how many dates to stamp.
- Pick the card colour, line colour and lettering. Courier stays as real text in the PDF.
- For many cards, open “Make many cards” and paste one book or name a line.
- Tick “Add a book pocket” if you want a pocket to cut and fold for each book.
- Download the PDF and print at 100% (Actual size). Check the 50 mm bar with a ruler, then cut on the crop marks.
What you can use it for
- Book cards and pockets for a classroom library
- Lending out books from your own shelves
- Membership cards for a book club, a little lending shelf or a school library
- Vintage-style cards for scrapbooks, journals and party invitations
- Props for a play or a pretend library at home
- Bookish gift tags and wedding favours
Card and pocket sizes
Sizes are read from the sources below. The sheet counts are for cards edge to edge inside a 10 mm margin, so one cut separates two cards.
| Card | Size | Inches | On US Letter | On A4 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Book card (date due) | 76.2 × 127 mm | 3 × 5 in | 4 | 4 |
| Library membership card (ID-1) | 85.6 × 53.98 mm | 3.37 × 2.13 in | 9 | 10 |
The book pocket opens flat at 112.9 × 209.55 mm: a back 3½ × 4½ in, a front 3½ × 3¾ in, and two 12 mm glue flaps. On a Letter or A4 page it prints next to one book card. With the default 7 mm line spacing a date due card has 11 lines; at 10 mm it has 8.
Sources, read 7-Nov-2026: The Library Store, book pockets and cards (pocket 4½ × 3½ in, 3¾ in deep, for a 3 × 5 in card), ISO/IEC 7810 on Wikipedia (ID-1, 85.60 × 53.98 mm).
Which card to choose
| Card | What’s on it | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Date due card | Library name, call number, author, title, then date due and borrower’s name | A classroom or school library, the classic look |
| Due and returned | The same, with a third column for the date the book came back | Keeping track of who still has a book |
| From the library of | Your name, author and title, then lent to, date and back | Lending books from your own shelves |
| Membership card | Library name, member name, member number, valid until, signature line | Book clubs, lending shelves and pretend libraries |
Stamped dates are printed in a stamp colour, a little crooked like a hand stamp. Turn the tilt off for straight dates, or leave the lines empty and use a real date stamp.
Printing and putting it together
- Print on card stock if your printer takes it. Plain paper works for pockets that are glued in.
- Print at 100% or Actual size, then measure the 50 mm bar.
- Cut book cards on the crop marks: one cut runs between two cards.
- Round the corners of membership cards with a corner punch if you like. ID-1 corners are 2.88 to 3.48 mm in radius.
- For the pocket, cut on the solid line and fold on the dashed lines, with the front folded back so its print faces out.
For a card with a photo, QR code or barcode, try the ID Card Maker. Readers might like a Bookmark Template or a Reading Log, and the Stamp Maker makes a stamp design of your own.

What size is a library card?
The old book card that sits in a pocket inside the cover is usually 3 × 5 in. A modern library membership card is usually the size of a bank card, 85.60 × 53.98 mm, the ID-1 size in ISO/IEC 7810. This tool makes both at true size.
What size is a library book pocket?
The pockets we read about measure 4½ in high and 3½ in wide, with a front 3¾ in deep, and hold a 3 × 5 in card. The pocket here is cut to those sizes, with glue flaps and a thumb notch of our own design.
How do I make a library book pocket?
Tick “Add a book pocket”, print the PDF on card at 100% and cut on the solid line. Fold the front panel back along the dashed line so the printed lines face out, fold the side flaps in and glue them to the back, then glue the back inside the book cover.
What goes on a date due card?
The author and title at the top, often a call number, then ruled lines for the date due and the borrower’s name. The three-column card adds a column for the date the book came back.
Can I stamp the dates?
Yes. Pick the day the book is lent and the loan in days, and the tool stamps that many dates down the date column in purple, red, blue or black ink, tilted a little like a hand stamp. You can also leave the lines empty for a real date stamp.
Can I make a card for every book?
Yes. Open “Make many cards” and paste one book a line, as “Title by Author” or two columns from a spreadsheet. Each line becomes its own card, up to 300.
Can I make membership cards with numbers?
Yes. Choose Membership card and paste one name a line. Each card gets the next number, with your prefix and number of digits, and an optional valid-until date.
Will it print at the right size?
Yes, if you print at 100% or Actual size, not Fit to page. Each sheet has a 50 mm bar, so you can check it with a ruler.
Is this a real library card?
No. It’s a template for your own cards. It isn’t connected with any library and doesn’t give access to one.
Is anything uploaded?
No. The cards are made in your browser, and your details are saved on this device only.
Can I use the cards I make?
Yes. The designs are our own drawings: you may use them and anything you make with them, including things you sell, with no credit needed.
Are the sample names real?
No. The library, the author, the book and the people in the sample are invented, so replace them with your own.
