Beverage Coolers

A Greek cooler company with a bottler among its shareholders.

Frigoglass dates from 1996. A 2024 Greek careers guide gives that as its start year and places it in Kifissia, Athens, and the company’s own product timeline begins in the same year with the FV range of coolers. Today the company describes itself as having three decades in commercial coolers and nearly 50 years in glass.

Its early history is tied to the bottling business. In February 2000 the European Commission cleared the merger of Hellenic Bottling Company and Coca-Cola Beverages on one condition, reported at the time by Agence Europe and GlassOnline: Hellenic, controlled by the Kar-Tess group, had to sell its 20% stake in Frigoglass. The Commission’s concern was that the merger could lock rival cooler makers out of selling to other bottlers of Coca-Cola products.

That product stayed at the centre of the business. Frigoglass’s financial reports use the trade term Ice-Cold Merchandisers, or ICMs, for its coolers. Its March 2026 report names Coca-Cola, Pepsi, AB InBev, Heineken and Carlsberg among the beverage brands it serves, and says the group works with customers from the conception of a customised cooler through to managing the fleet in the field.

Glass was the group’s other business. Its Nigerian operation, built around Beta Glass, made glass containers, plastic crates and metal crowns, and it remained part of Frigoglass until February 2026.

The fridge as a shopfront.

Frigoglass’s coolers are made to carry other companies’ brands. Its March 2026 report puts it directly: the coolers serve not only to chill products but also as retail space that encourages immediate consumption and enhances the customer’s brand. Its website calls them solutions “designed for excellent point-of-sale activation.”

The company’s innovation timeline shows how it thinks about that job, in its own words. It calls the Retro Classic of 2003 its first “ICON,” a cooler that showed the importance of brand-relevant product design. It says the Easy Reach Express check-out cooler of 2005 placed more than 140,000 units worldwide. It says the Activator of 2010 introduced a cassette cooling system in Europe. And it calls ICOOL2, of 2021, its second ICON, a range meant to dominate the point of sale. The current catalogue is sorted by region, door type and capacity, with ranges including ICOOL2, MAX and FV.

Around the cooler the company has built three other named offers. Frigoserve is its Asset Performance Services arm, covering order management, field service, installations, refurbishment, spare parts and warehousing. Norcool sells cooling products and wine cabinets, mainly in the Nordic countries, through Scandinavian Appliances AS; the company dates its roots to 1978 and its products include a large corner fridge. Unbound is a connected cooler system using weight sensors and camera recognition. In November 2025 Frigoglass announced an agreement with the French technology company NU! to fit that firm’s smart shelf technology to vending coolers, with exclusive rights in the beverage industry and for selected hospitality accounts.

Manufacturing has shifted with the business. The March 2026 report names four production facilities, in Romania, India, Indonesia and South Africa, while the company’s home page gives five in one line. The group’s Russian business, with its plant in the Oryol region, was sold in 2026. In June 2025 the company announced the first cooler from a new production line in Cairo, made with the Egyptian appliance maker Fresh: a Coca-Cola unit with serial number 0001. Frigoglass’s website sets its type in Manrope and carries the line “We cool the future.”

How refrigeration makers present themselves.

Refrigeration is a trade that sells equipment most people only half notice, and its makers tend to picture it where it works. Supermarket case makers show long runs of cabinets, glass doors catching the aisle lights and the shelves stretching away down the frame. Cooling tower makers go up to the roof and shoot their steel boxes against open sky.

Compressor makers work closer in. Their catalogues favour the cut-away: a casing sliced open with the copper, windings and pistons labelled, part engineering drawing and part sales picture. Coil makers go closer still, with condensate beading on fins and tubes in tight rows. Beverage cooler makers have a different job, because the cabinet is also an advertisement, so the photograph often sits on a shop floor with a drink brand’s name on the door.

Much of the category’s public life happens at trade fairs. Chillventa in Nuremberg is the refrigeration industry’s own show, EuroShop in Düsseldorf is where retail fittings meet retail design, AHR Expo moves between American cities for the heating, cooling and refrigeration trades, and Mostra Convegno Expocomfort in Milan covers heating, plumbing and cooling. At these shows the stand does the work of the brand book: a unit opened up, a logo at full height, model names on the panels.

That naming is a habit worth noticing. Ranges are usually identified by letters and numbers, written for engineers who read specification sheets, so a memorable product name or a founding story stands out. The guides here set out what can be checked about each one: who founded it, who owns it, and what it says about where its products are made.

Two Frigoglasses

The cooler business and the listed company are now separate.

The name now belongs to two different things, and the difference matters. In April 2023 the company went through a financial restructuring after it could no longer service its debts. In an interview published on its own site in November 2023, Frigoglass Group chairman Gagik Apkarian of Tetrad Capital Partners described a bond default and the bondholders’ move to take control. The law firm Loyens & Loeff records that the Netherlands Commercial Court gave permission for a private enforcement sale on 12 April 2023, and that the restructuring was completed on 27 April 2023.

The operating business, the Frigoglass Group, passed to a new English parent, Frigo DebtCo plc. Its releases say that company is 85% held by Frigo NewCo 1 Limited, the former noteholders’ vehicle, and 15% by Frigoglass S.A.I.C., the old Greek company. That company, which the 2023 interview links to the David-Leventis group, remains listed in Athens with its own board. Euronext Athens moved its shares from the Surveillance Category to the Main Market on 26 June 2025, and it published a 2026 financial calendar in April 2026. Frigoglass Group’s releases are explicit that “there are no links” between the two. A Frigoglass share on the Athens market is a share in that separate company.

Since then the group has narrowed. It completed the sale of its Nigerian glass business to Helios Investment Partners in February 2026, and its exit from Russia on 26 May 2026. In December 2025 its creditors also agreed to support a solvent wind-down of the parent, Frigo DebtCo plc, at an appropriate time after planned asset sales, with details to follow. As of November 2026 Companies House still listed Frigo DebtCo plc as active. That refers to the holding company; the same release spoke of funding the growth of the commercial refrigeration division, and a Quartr summary of second-quarter 2026 results, dated August 2026, describes a more focused business still trading. Under the 2023 structure a new Greek company replaced the old one as the group’s head office, PowerGame reported. The contact page gives Kifissia, while corporate releases carry a London dateline.

For a design guide, Frigoglass shows a maker whose products carry other companies’ logos, and a name that has outlived the structure that created it. Compare Epta, which refrigerates the supermarket aisle, and Verallia, a maker of glass containers, the business Frigoglass left in 2026. For this guide we use blue, navy and a pale condensation tint with a sans, an unofficial interpretation; no product or logo is reproduced.
