Arredamento Negozi

Shop furnishing first, cold second.

Arneg’s name explains how it started. The company says it stands for ARredamento NEGozi, or store furnishing, and the trade magazine ESM, in a 60th-anniversary profile of October 2023, explains it the same way. The business was founded in 1963 by Roberto Marzaro and Luigi Finco; Industry Today, in a 2019 profile of its Brazilian arm, places the founding in Campo San Martino, in the province of Padua, where the parent company Arneg S.p.A. is still based.

Refrigeration came as an addition to a shelving trade. The company’s history page says the two young founders decided to expand their range of shelving and furnishings for food stores “by adding refrigerated displays made by skilled local craftsmen.” Its 60th-anniversary statement of February 2023 names the first of them as the Karachi, a cabinet it dates to 1963 and describes as beginning “a long story” for the company.

ESM gives the early years in more detail. Arneg began in rented space and soon moved to a plot of land with a new warehouse, and the workshop gradually came to resemble a real factory. For years, the magazine says, its refrigerated displays went into small shops. As food distribution grew, small cabinets with built-in compressors were no longer enough, and larger units with remote compressors were needed for medium and large spaces. ESM says Arneg entered large-scale retail with customisation as its distinctive element.

The company’s own account describes the same shift as a move from small cabinets for local corner shops to complete furnishing solutions for large stores, and it credits a change from manual production to mechanisation and then to specialist departments. It dates its first research and development centre to 1992. That department, it says, has grown into today’s Technology Hub, with seven test rooms and eleven data acquisition stations.

From a plant in Portugal to a group of brands.

Arneg looked abroad early. ESM reports that it focused first on international markets and then on Italy, with orders taken by sales agents travelling around Europe and brought back to be fulfilled in Italy. To sustain that growth, the magazine says, Marzaro and Finco opened Arneg’s first production plant in Portugal in the 1970s.

South America followed, not without interruption. Industry Today reported in 2019 that Arneg’s presence in Brazil dated back to 1975 but ended in 1985, when the inflation of the 1980s forced the operation to close. Arneg Brasil was re-established in 1996 with a new plant at Paulínia, about 75 miles from São Paulo, and that article names Paulo Roberto Solimeo as its owner and general director.

The group has also expanded by purchase, and the trade title Cooling Post has dated those steps. In February 2015 Arneg bought all of Manor Concepts of Sandy, Bedfordshire, a cabinet refurbisher that had developed its own retail display range; a year later Arneg UK moved from Harlow to the same site. In March 2015 Arneg Nordic bought a majority share in Frigadon of Halmstad, Sweden, a maker of refrigeration units since 1977. In January 2021 Arneg Deutschland bought the contractor IKT of Oer-Erkenschwick, adding cold rooms to its German offer.

Two Italian purchases followed. In December 2021 Arneg acquired Frigo Tecnica Internazionale of Ascoli Piceno, an industrial refrigeration contractor established in 1981, and said it would keep its own identity. In July 2025 it acquired Frigomeccanica, founded in 1962 in the province of Teramo, a specialist in ice cream display freezers and pastry showcases whose brands are Frigomeccanica, Stiltek, Officine 900 and Sifa. Cooling Post quoted Daniele Marzaro, chief executive of the group’s foreign subsidiaries, on that deal.

Arneg’s website now counts 23 manufacturing companies, 15 trading and service companies and six representative offices. It presents four brands. Arneg covers remotely refrigerated displays and refrigeration systems; Intrac covers shelving, checkouts and store furnishings; Incold covers cold rooms and isothermal doors; and Oscartielle covers displays with built-in motors. Incold marked its 30th anniversary on 19 June 2026, Refindustry reported, under chief executive Filippo Finco.

Cabinets, stands and store furnishing.

Refrigeration is a trade that sells equipment most people only half notice, and its makers tend to picture it where it works. Supermarket case makers show long runs of cabinets, glass doors catching the aisle lights and the shelves stretching away down the frame. Cooling tower makers go up to the roof and shoot their steel boxes against open sky.

Compressor makers work closer in. Their catalogues favour the cut-away: a casing sliced open with the copper, windings and pistons labelled, part engineering drawing and part sales picture. Coil makers go closer still, with condensate beading on fins and tubes in tight rows. Beverage cooler makers have a different job, because the cabinet is also an advertisement, so the photograph often sits on a shop floor with a drink brand’s name on the door.

Much of the category’s public life happens at trade fairs. Chillventa in Nuremberg is the refrigeration industry’s own show, EuroShop in Düsseldorf is where retail fittings meet retail design, AHR Expo moves between American cities for the heating, cooling and refrigeration trades, and Mostra Convegno Expocomfort in Milan covers heating, plumbing and cooling. At these shows the stand does the work of the brand book: a unit opened up, a logo at full height, model names on the panels.

That naming is a habit worth noticing. Ranges are usually identified by letters and numbers, written for engineers who read specification sheets, so a memorable product name or a founding story stands out. The guides here set out what can be checked about each one: who founded it, who owns it, and what it says about where its products are made.

Arneg

A red line through the stand.

Arneg’s language leans on Italian origin and on made-to-order work. Its website promises “Italian authenticity” and says the company has always promoted “Italian style, elegance and tradition,” while “Customisation is what sets us apart” heads a section of its About page. Its strapline is “Your Global Partner for Retail Solutions.” It names three values, craftsmanship, sharing and innovation, which ESM reported in 2023 the company considers non-negotiable. In its anniversary statement it quotes its company vision: “Nothing is fixed and unchanging. Everything can be done differently, improved, re-invented.”

The clearest recent statement of the brand was built at a trade fair. At EuroShop 2026 in Düsseldorf, from 22 to 26 February, the group took a 2,300-square-metre stand under the theme “A World of Values,” shared with Incold, Intrac and Oscartielle. Refindustry reported in December 2025 that a physical red line would run through the stand, connecting the companies and their shared values. Arneg said in March 2026 that the stand was a finalist in Exhibitor magazine’s EuroShop Awards and won the Silver Award in the People’s Choice category, which rewards stands rather than products.

The products shown there and at Chillventa in Germany in October 2026 give a picture of the current range. Arneg’s statement named the Tower Ring and Osaka 3 LX Omni Ring smart solutions, the A-Eye monitoring systems and the Prisma transcritical CO2 units. Refindustry reported that Tower Ring was designed for stores with limited space, and listed the Imola promotional island and Globo CO2 system among the Chillventa exhibits. The range the website describes runs from refrigerated counters and towers to hot cases, multi-deck cabinets, open and closed islands and rear-service cabinets.

For a design guide, Arneg shows how a plain descriptive name can outlast its first meaning: a word for store furnishing now sits on an international refrigeration group, and the group still sells shelving under Intrac. Compare Epta, another Italian maker in commercial refrigeration, and Hussmann, which began by supplying butchers. For this guide we use a line red, graphite and white with a sans, an unofficial interpretation; no product or logo is reproduced.
