Pilgrim Hat Template

Print a pilgrim hat template for free. Pick a tall or a short hat front with a band and a buckle, or a hat band on its own with the buckle at the front. Choose the head size (toddler to adult) or type the head measurement: the tool makes the headband that long plus an overlap at the back, and when it is longer than the paper it splits it into pieces with glue tabs, keeping the hat front clear of the joins. The buckle can be printed in gold, cut as a separate piece, or left off. Add a name on the hat. A 1 in (or 2 cm) check square shows the print is true size. Outline only to colour, or in your colours. Download a PDF on US Letter or A4, an SVG cut file or a PNG. No sign-up, no watermark.

Runs in your browser with our own code; the name never leaves your device, and nothing is saved. The hat is our own drawing. The band is the head measurement plus the overlap, split into pieces that fit the paper with glue tabs. Print at 100% (Actual size) and check the square.

How to print a pilgrim hat template

  1. Choose the hat style and the buckle.
  2. Choose the head size, or measure round the head just above the eyebrows and ears and type it in; choose the overlap at the back and the band depth.
  3. Optional: type a name for the hat, pick a colour or a pattern.
  4. Download the PDF and print at 100% (Actual size); measure the check square. There is also an SVG (true size) and a 300 DPI PNG, one per sheet.
  5. Cut out the pieces, glue the band pieces A to A and B to B, glue the hat front on the band and close the band at the back.

Frequently asked questions

What size headband does a child need?

Our child size uses 19 in, the middle of the 18–20 in range in the Craft Yarn Council head chart; toddler, tween and adult sizes are on the same chart. For the best fit, measure the head and type the measurement.

How do I measure a head?

Put a tape measure round the head just above the eyebrows and the tops of the ears, where the hat will sit, and read the measurement where the tape meets.

What if the band is longer than my paper?

The tool splits it into pieces that fit the sheet. Each piece except the last has a grey glue tab: glue it under the start of the next piece, A to A and B to B. The pieces overlap by the width of the tab, 15 mm.

How do I check the print is the right size?

Measure the check square on the first sheet: it must be exactly 1 in (or 2 cm with cm units) on each side. If it is smaller, print again at 100% or Actual size, not Fit to page.

What is the band-only style?

A hat band without a hat front: a deeper band (5 cm by default) with the buckle at the front, quick to make for a whole class.

How big is the hat front?

The crown is 0.3 times the head measurement wide at its base and the brim 1.32 times the crown; on small paper the tool makes it smaller so it fits one sheet, and says so. The table on this page shows the sizes.

Can I use it with a Cricut or Silhouette?

Yes. Download the SVG: it is true size in millimetres, with the cut lines on their own layer.

Can I sell things I make with this hat?

The designs are our own drawings: you may use them and anything you make with them, including things you sell, with no credit needed.
