PNG to JPG Converter
Convert PNG to JPG online for free — 100% in your browser, with a background-colour option for transparency and a quality slider. Batch convert, nothing uploaded.
100% private — your images never leave your browser. Conversion happens on your device; nothing is uploaded.
JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas are filled with your chosen background colour (white by default). Everything runs in your browser, so your images never leave your device — and metadata (EXIF/GPS) is stripped automatically when the image is re-encoded.

| PNG | JPG | |
|---|---|---|
| Compression | Lossless | Lossy (adjustable quality) |
| Transparency | Yes | No — filled with a background colour |
| Best for | Logos, screenshots, graphics with text | Photos and images with gradients |
| Typical size for a photo | Large | Usually several times smaller |
Choosing a quality setting
The slider runs from 1 to 100 and starts at 92, which keeps photos visually identical to the PNG while shrinking them a lot. Lower it for smaller files:
| Quality | Looks | Use it for |
|---|---|---|
| 90–100 | Indistinguishable from the original | Printing, archiving, editing later |
| 75–89 | No visible difference for most images | Websites, email and social media |
| 50–74 | Slight softness on close inspection | Thumbnails and previews |
| Below 50 | Visible blocks and smearing | Only when file size matters most |
What happens to transparent areas?
JPG can't store transparency, so transparent pixels are filled with the background colour you pick — white by default. Choose a colour that matches where the image will be shown, or keep the file as PNG (or WebP) if you need the transparency.
Troubleshooting
- Logo edges look fuzzy: JPG softens sharp lines and text — keep logos and screenshots as PNG, or raise quality to 95+.
- The JPG is bigger than the PNG: this happens with simple flat graphics — PNG is the better format for those.
- Converting many files: drop them all at once and use “Download all (ZIP)”.
Frequently asked questions
Does converting PNG to JPG lose quality?
JPG is lossy, so there's a small reduction — but at high quality (90%+) it's usually invisible. Set it with the quality slider.
Why does my transparent PNG get a background in JPG?
JPG can't store transparency, so transparent areas are filled with a solid colour. This tool lets you pick it (white by default).
How do I keep a white background?
Leave the background colour on white (the default) and transparent areas become white in the JPG.
Is PNG or JPG better for the web?
JPG is smaller for photos; PNG is better for graphics, logos and anything needing transparency.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No — conversion happens entirely in your browser. Your images never leave your device, even offline.
