Suzhou, 2010

An inverter maker in Jiangsu.

GoodWe was founded in Suzhou, in China’s Jiangsu province, in 2010. The Shanghai Stock Exchange’s company profile gives the founding date as 5 November 2010, the full name as Jiangsu GoodWe Power Supply Technology and the domicile as Suzhou, and describes a company focused on the research, development, manufacture, sale and service of PV inverters and energy storage solutions. Its founder and chief executive is Daniel Huang, as pv magazine USA reported in January 2022 and the Spanish trade site Energías Renovables reported in November 2025.

The company listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange’s STAR Market, the board for science and technology companies, on 4 September 2020, under the code 688390, according to the exchange. The exchange’s profile names PV grid-connected inverters, PV energy storage inverters, smart data collectors and the SEMS smart energy management system as the core of the business. Its shareholder table, dated April 2021, lists Huang Min as the largest single shareholder, with just under a third of the shares, ahead of other individuals and investment partnerships.

GoodWe went abroad early. SolarQuotes, the Australian solar consumer site, reported in January 2022 that the company had kept an office in Melbourne since 2012, and pv magazine USA reported in the same month that GoodWe had launched in the United States in October 2021. The same pv magazine USA report said that in 2016 its products received a qualification certificate from TÜV Rheinland’s laboratory.

Software sits beside the hardware. pv magazine USA reported that GoodWe built SEMS, its smart energy management system, to monitor, manage and connect energy systems, and linked that work directly to the new brand identity the company launched in 2022.

A new logo and a slogan in January 2022.

For a design guide, GoodWe’s most useful date is January 2022, when it changed its logo. Canal Solar, the Brazilian solar trade site, reported that the new brand was launched worldwide on 7 and 8 January 2022, with a new logo and the slogan “Smart Energy Innovator.” The company said both had been reworked to bring out a high-tech identity built on technological innovation, and Canal Solar reported that the new logo was meant to illustrate collaboration.

pv magazine USA reported that all future GoodWe product designs would carry the new mark, that the website had been revamped with a cleaner look, and that the company described the new brand personality as “Strong, capable, and reputable”; Canal Solar’s version of the same statement reads “Solid, Capable and Trustworthy.” The old mark had its critics: writing for SolarQuotes, Michael Bloch said he had always been puzzled by the square spiral in the previous logo, and judged the new one an improvement.

The products behind the badge have widened since. At Intersolar South America in 2022, Canal Solar reported, GoodWe showed its HT line of high-power string inverters for commercial, industrial and ground-mounted projects and the Lynx Home U, a low-voltage lithium battery for homes. By the company’s fifteenth anniversary, Energías Renovables reported in November 2025, GoodWe described its range as spanning inverters, batteries, all-in-one storage systems, building-integrated PV, heat pumps and energy management platforms, and Daniel Huang said the company had more than 6,000 employees worldwide.

How inverter makers present themselves.

Solar inverter makers sell a box that most owners rarely look at. The inverter usually hangs on a garage or utility-room wall, with the panels it serves out of sight on the roof, so the companies that make them tend to show the whole system: rows of modules on a tiled roof, a slim inverter mounted beside the fuse board, and, more and more often, a stack of battery modules standing next to it.

The screen has become as important as the hardware. Inverter makers commonly pair their hardware with a monitoring app or energy management platform, and their marketing leans on phone screens with daily power curves, battery charge levels and the flow of electricity between roof, home and grid. Growatt and GoodWe both describe software platforms as part of their range, and GoodWe linked its 2022 rebrand and the slogan “Smart Energy Innovator” to that shift.

Factories and trade fairs supply the rest of the imagery. Brand imagery in this field also turns to production lines, test benches and new headquarters buildings, while the industry gathers each year at shows such as Intersolar Europe in Munich and its regional editions, where makers fill large stands with inverters, battery cabinets and charging equipment and launch new product lines.

Two of the makers in this guide, Growatt and GoodWe, were founded in 2010, in Shenzhen and Suzhou, and both have since added home and commercial batteries to their inverters. This guide sets out what can be checked about each brand — who founded it, who owns it, where it says its products are made — and marks clearly what rests only on the company’s own word.

GoodWe

A headquarters in the Suzhou High-Tech Zone.

Suzhou has remained the centre. SolarQuotes reported that GoodWe moved into a Suzhou headquarters that also included factory space in late 2019. On 8 January 2022, the same weekend as the rebrand, it held a ground-breaking ceremony for a new headquarters in the Suzhou High-Tech Zone, which the company said would rise 20 floors above ground and three below and house a smart energy research facility, pv magazine USA and Canal Solar reported.

That building opened in November 2024. Saur Energy, the Indian trade site, reported that the new global headquarters was inaugurated during GoodWe’s first Global Partner Summit, which it said gathered about 500 industry players, and that the building incorporates the company’s own solar products. At the summit, the site reported, GoodWe showed products for homes, businesses and utility-scale plants alongside building-integrated PV and heat pumps, and Huang said this breadth rested on the company’s inverter expertise, “rooted in advanced power electronics.” A year later the headquarters hosted the company’s fifteenth-anniversary event, held under the motto “Connected by Light, Creating Beyond Limits,” Energías Renovables reported, where GoodWe set out a five-part strategy of generation, grid, load, storage and intelligence, and Huang described a company that had grown from an inverter maker into a provider of smart energy solutions. The programme included a round table with partner companies from Pakistan, South Africa and Germany, and presentations of virtual power plant and commercial storage projects.

For a design guide, GoodWe shows how a component maker can use a new logo, a slogan and a stated brand personality to signal a move from single products to whole energy systems. Compare Growatt, founded in Shenzhen the same year, and Sungrow, another Chinese inverter maker. For this guide we use a slate blue, a pale mist and a coral with a sans, an unofficial interpretation; no product or logo is reproduced.
