Silicon Valley

Electronics for every panel.

Tigo Energy makes electronics that sit behind individual solar panels. English Wikipedia says the company was founded in 2007 by Sam Arditi and Ron Hadar, and the company says it was founded that year in Silicon Valley “to accelerate the adoption of solar energy.” Its specialty, in Wikipedia’s words, is module-level power optimizers and smart module power electronics, a category the trade calls MLPE: devices fitted to each panel so that its output can be tuned, watched and switched off on its own.

The early years were funded by venture capital. Wikipedia records a fourth funding round led by Bessemer Venture Partners in December 2011, and an award in June 2012 from the US Department of Energy as part of its SunShot incubator programme. In 2012, Wikipedia says, Tigo launched a generation of its technology built directly into solar panels during manufacture, so that installers no longer had to add a separate box to each module; its launch partners included panel makers such as Trina Solar and Hanwha SolarOne. Wikipedia also says Tigo was the first power optimizer maker to certify embedding its electronics directly into a module’s junction box.

In September 2012, according to Wikipedia, the research firm IMS Research named Tigo as one of three suppliers that between them accounted for nine-tenths of the market for micro-inverters and power optimizers. English Wikipedia notes, too, that Tigo Energy has no connection with Tigo, the mobile telephone brand of Millicom International Cellular. By May 2017, Wikipedia says, the company employed more than 70 people in more than ten offices worldwide.

TS4, Energy Intelligence and the GO system.

The core of today’s range is the TS4 platform, which the company calls Flex MLPE. Its pitch is choice: the same modular platform can be fitted with different functions per panel, which the company lists as optimisation, monitoring and rapid shutdown, which it describes as required by electrical codes. Current families on its website include the TS4-A for panels up to 725 watts and the TS4-X for panels up to 800 watts; in August 2021, Wikipedia says, Tigo released the TS4-A-S rapid shutdown device with module-level monitoring for panels rated up to 700 watts.

Software sits beside the hardware. Tigo’s Energy Intelligence (EI) platform handles commissioning and monitoring from a single panel up to a fleet of sites, and the company also offers Predict+, which it describes as software for utilities, independent power producers and energy traders. In September 2021, Wikipedia says, Tigo moved into home systems with a residential inverter and battery under the EI brand; today the company sells that offer as the GO Optimized ESS, in separate versions for the United States and Europe, with an EV charger in the same family. The company says a software feature of its US EI inverters received a 2025 Top Products honourable mention from Solar Power World.

Tigo has long sold itself as a partner to other makers’ inverters. In October 2020, Wikipedia says, it launched Tigo Enhanced, a programme with partner inverter companies including Sungrow, Growatt and Canadian Solar, and a Tigo Enhanced logo on Tigo devices and partner products serves as a visual sign that the two are compatible. In October 2026 the company announced compatibility between its TS4 line and inverters from Fronius.

How inverter makers present themselves.

Solar inverter makers sell a box that most owners rarely look at. The inverter usually hangs on a garage or utility-room wall, with the panels it serves out of sight on the roof, so the companies that make them tend to show the whole system: rows of modules on a tiled roof, a slim inverter mounted beside the fuse board, and, more and more often, a stack of battery modules standing next to it.

The screen has become as important as the hardware. Inverter makers commonly pair their hardware with a monitoring app or energy management platform, and their marketing leans on phone screens with daily power curves, battery charge levels and the flow of electricity between roof, home and grid. Growatt and GoodWe both describe software platforms as part of their range, and GoodWe linked its 2022 rebrand and the slogan “Smart Energy Innovator” to that shift.

Factories and trade fairs supply the rest of the imagery. Brand imagery in this field also turns to production lines, test benches and new headquarters buildings, while the industry gathers each year at shows such as Intersolar Europe in Munich and its regional editions, where makers fill large stands with inverters, battery cabinets and charging equipment and launch new product lines.

Two of the makers in this guide, Growatt and GoodWe, were founded in 2010, in Shenzhen and Suzhou, and both have since added home and commercial batteries to their inverters. This guide sets out what can be checked about each brand — who founded it, who owns it, where it says its products are made — and marks clearly what rests only on the company’s own word.

Tigo Energy

A start-up that went public through a SPAC.

Tigo stayed private for its first sixteen years. On 23 May 2023 it completed a business combination with Roth CH Acquisition IV Co., a special purpose acquisition company listed on Nasdaq, whose shareholders had approved the deal on 18 May, the companies announced. The combined business kept the name Tigo Energy, Inc. and Tigo’s management, and its shares began trading on Nasdaq under the ticker TYGO on 24 May 2023. Its chief executive at the time was Zvi Alon, whom pv magazine described in August 2025 as chairman and chief executive.

The company’s address has moved within the San Jose area. The 2023 announcement was datelined Campbell, California; in August 2025 pv magazine reported that Tigo had recently relocated from Campbell to Los Gatos, the town English Wikipedia gives as its headquarters. The company says it is still headquartered in Silicon Valley, with offices and installations around the world.

Its manufacturing story has a recent American chapter. In August 2025 pv magazine reported that Tigo and EG4 Electronics, a Texas solar equipment company, would produce Tigo optimized inverters and module-level electronics together with EG4 inverters at a factory in the United States. In May 2026 pv magazine USA reported the first shipment under that agreement: TS4-A-O optimizers, Cloud Connect Advanced data loggers and Tigo Access Point units, assembled at an SVI manufacturing facility in Vancouver, Washington, to be built into or bundled with EG4 inverters.

For a design guide, Tigo Energy shows how a component maker can make compatibility itself the brand, down to a partner badge displayed on other companies’ inverters. Compare SolarEdge, another optimizer maker, and Fronius, whose inverters work with the TS4 line. For this guide we use a deep green, a pale leaf and a cloud white with a sans, an unofficial interpretation; no product or logo is reproduced.
