Shanghai, 2022

A storage start-up led by Huawei veterans.

Sigenergy is one of the newest names in solar storage. Caixin Global reported in April 2026 that Sigenergy Technology Co. Ltd. (西格能源科技有限公司) is a Shanghai-based residential energy storage company founded in 2022, and the company’s own 2024 press material also gives 2022 as its founding year. Its leaders came from Huawei. According to Caixin, the founder and chairman, Xu Yingtong, spent 23 years at Huawei, where he led the smart photovoltaic and Ascend AI businesses, and the president and executive director, Zhang Xianmiao, oversaw solar inverter research and development there.

The first product came quickly. A June 2024 company release said its home storage system SigenStor was introduced at Intersolar and ees Europe in 2023, the solar and storage trade fair held in Munich, and that the company returned a year later with products for commercial and industrial buyers as well as homes.

Ownership moved from private investors to the stock market in 2026. Caixin named Hillhouse Investment as Sigenergy’s largest outside shareholder before the listing and Walden International as the second largest. On 16 April 2026 the shares began trading on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange under the code 06656, Mercom reported; the cornerstone investors included Temasek’s Aranda Investments, Goldman Sachs Asset Management and UBS Asset Management, according to Caixin. Speaking at the listing, Mercom reported, Xu Yingtong described the company’s mission as “AI in All” and said it would keep investing in energy storage research and international expansion.

Five functions in one stack.

Sigenergy’s signature product is SigenStor. pv magazine described it in April 2026 as a five-in-one system that combines solar, storage and charging, and Mercom listed its parts as an inverter, an EV DC charging module and a battery pack in a modular, stackable unit. In its 2024 release the company said homeowners could build a stack from 5 kWh or 8 kWh battery modules, called SigenStor the first energy storage system to integrate DC fast charging, and said it supported two-way charging with NIO electric cars in China. Those are the company’s statements.

The range has grown around that idea. SigenStack takes the same stacked design to commercial and industrial sites, pairing a hybrid inverter with battery modules, and the Sigen Energy Gateway lets SigenStor run on-grid, off-grid or in a microgrid, the company says. The same release said SigenStor had been used in projects from wineries and workshops to warehouses, and that both systems could be installed indoors or outdoors, on a rooftop or in a corridor. It also makes EV chargers: in June 2024 the company said its Sigen EV AC Charger had received a Red Dot Design Award, and that SigenStor had been nominated for The smarter E Award that year.

Manufacturing is in China. pv magazine reported in April 2026 that production is based at three sites in the country. In March 2026 the company opened its Nantong Smart Energy Center in Jiangsu province, describing it in a release as a manufacturing and research site for inverters and battery packs. At the same event it introduced the “AI in All” strategy and launched SigenStor Neo, a new home system that the company says continues its “integrated, stackable design language,” along with a 166 kW commercial inverter.

The company sells far beyond China. It told pv magazine in 2026 that it had a presence in markets including Australia, Ireland and South Africa, and a distribution network covering 85 countries. It said the listing proceeds would go to research and development, wider global sales channels and international brand building.

Inverter makers and their stage.

Solar inverter makers sell a box that most owners rarely look at. The inverter usually hangs on a garage or utility-room wall, with the panels it serves out of sight on the roof, so the companies that make them tend to show the whole system: rows of modules on a tiled roof, a slim inverter mounted beside the fuse board, and, more and more often, a stack of battery modules standing next to it.

The screen has become as important as the hardware. Inverter makers commonly pair their hardware with a monitoring app or energy management platform, and their marketing leans on phone screens with daily power curves, battery charge levels and the flow of electricity between roof, home and grid. Growatt and GoodWe both describe software platforms as part of their range, and GoodWe linked its 2022 rebrand and the slogan “Smart Energy Innovator” to that shift.

Factories and trade fairs supply the rest of the imagery. Brand imagery in this field also turns to production lines, test benches and new headquarters buildings, while the industry gathers each year at shows such as Intersolar Europe in Munich and its regional editions, where makers fill large stands with inverters, battery cabinets and charging equipment and launch new product lines.

Two of the makers in this guide, Growatt and GoodWe, were founded in 2010, in Shenzhen and Suzhou, and both have since added home and commercial batteries to their inverters. This guide sets out what can be checked about each brand — who founded it, who owns it, where it says its products are made — and marks clearly what rests only on the company’s own word.

Sigenergy

Sigen, Stor, Stack.

Sigenergy’s naming is its most visible system. Almost every product carries the same prefix, Sigen, joined to a plain word: SigenStor for the home system, SigenStack for the commercial one, the Sigen Energy Gateway and the Sigen EV AC Charger. The newer home system simply adds Neo. The result is a family of names that tells a buyer which part of the system each box plays, and keeps the company name in front of every one of them.

The physical idea behind the names is the stack. The company’s own descriptions keep returning to modules that sit one on top of another, and in its 2026 launch it called this an “integrated, stackable design language,” carried from SigenStor to SigenStor Neo and up to SigenStack for factories and offices. The company reported a Red Dot Design Award for its AC charger in 2024.

Its voice is built around technology. The phrase “AI in All” appears in its 2026 launch material, in pv magazine’s report on the Hong Kong listing and in the founder’s words on listing day, and the company describes energy systems that move from simply running to systems that coordinate and optimise themselves.

For a design guide, Sigenergy shows how a company only four years old built a recognisable product family from one prefix, one stacked form and one slogan. Compare Huawei, where its leaders previously worked, and Fox ESS, another young Chinese home storage maker. For this guide we use a deep teal, graphite and mist white with a sans, an unofficial interpretation; no product or logo is reproduced.
