Haglöfs Brand Guidelines

Since 1914
Haglöfs began with backpacks and became a technical outdoor brand.
Haglöfs is a lesson in heritage that starts with carry. Founded in 1914 by Wiktor Haglöf in Dalarna, Sweden — making backpacks and rucksacks — it grew into a full technical outdoor brand and is today headquartered in Alvik, Stockholm.
Its brand identity is Scandinavian, technical and monochrome — clean, functional, muted design across backpacks (its heritage core), GORE-TEX shells, footwear and sleeping bags, with an ultralight “Less Is More” (L.I.M) line. It runs a Care and Repair service and a Restored resale program.
(Honest notes: Haglöfs’ ownership has changed — it was owned by ASICS from 2010, but ASICS sold it to the Hong Kong private-equity firm Ltd LionRock Capital in December 2023, its current owner. It designs in Sweden but makes through a supplier network (it doesn’t own factories). And there’s no official brand hex, so the tones here are an unofficial interpretation.)
Colour
Haglöfs lives in a monochrome palette. Click a swatch to copy the hex.
Haglöfs’ identity is monochrome, technical and Scandinavian — an ink, a graphite, a steel, a silver, and a snow. The palette leans on a near-monochrome grey scale — ink, graphite, steel — the register of clean Swedish technical design. It signals function, restraint and utility rather than colour or fashion. The honest caveat: with no published brand hex, these tones are an original, unofficial interpretation, not first-party values.
The lesson is a monochrome palette signals technical restraint. Haglöfs’ world is a Swedish mountain in clean grey light. For designers, it is a reminder that a disciplined grey scale reads as technical and Scandinavian — right for a function-first brand. The takeaways: work in a grey scale; keep it disciplined; and treat any single hex as unofficial — using ink for small text so the palette stays clean.
Typography
The register is a mono grotesque — clean and technical.
Haglöfs’ identity carries a clean, technical, Scandinavian spirit — backpacks and function. A monochrome grotesque captures the mood: it is clean and disciplined, the register of a technical Swedish brand. Set in a monochrome palette, the grotesque feels clean and technical — exactly the personality Haglöfs carries. It is functional rather than decorative, mirroring restrained design. (Haglöfs’ real wordmark — keeping its “ö” — and its emblem are trademarks we describe but do not reproduce, and the exact brand typeface is not ours to use.) Because the marks are not ours to use, the honest description is “a mono grotesque spirit,” shown here in a stand-in. The type behaves like the brand: clean, technical and Scandinavian.

Function as identity
Haglöfs stands for technical Scandinavian function.
Haglöfs is a lesson in making function the identity. A monochrome palette, a backpack origin and clean technical design make Scandinavian function the whole brand — restrained, technical, enduring. The function is the differentiator. The differentiator is a monochrome, technical, Scandinavian identity.
For designers and brand-builders, Haglöfs offers a clear takeaway: restraint can carry a heritage. The lessons: own a real origin (backpacks, 1914); keep the design disciplined (monochrome, functional); and back longevity (Care and Repair, Restored). It is also a reminder to stay accurate: it’s owned by LionRock Capital since 2023 (not ASICS anymore), HQ is Alvik in Stockholm, and the palette here is an unofficial interpretation. Haglöfs made function the brand — proof that restraint can be the difference.
