Holly Leaf Template

Print a holly leaf template for free. Choose how many spines each leaf has (2 to 7 on each side, 4 by default), with or without a stem and veins, and set the leaf length from 1 in to a full page, or a giant leaf up to 24 in tiled over several sheets. Make single leaves, a sprig set of two leaves (one a mirror image) with three round berries, berries on their own, a wreath (a ring with its middle cut out plus leaves and berries to glue round it), a garland strip of leaves joined on a band with a glue tab to link the strips, or a stencil with a leaf and three berries to cut out of card and paint through. Every leaf is left-right symmetric. Fill the sheet with small leaves for a class, and type names to print one on each leaf. Print the outline to colour, or a colour version in dark, light or mixed greens with red berries. A check square shows the print is true size. Download a PDF on US Letter or A4, an SVG cut file or a PNG. No sign-up, no watermark.

Runs in your browser with our own code; names never leave your device, and nothing is saved. The holly leaves are our own drawing; every leaf is left-right symmetric with the number of spines you choose. Every piece is placed so it fits the sheet. The PDF is true size: print at 100% (Actual size) and check the square.

How to print a holly leaf template

  1. Choose what to make: leaves, a sprig set, berries, a wreath, a garland strip or a stencil.
  2. Choose the number of spines and the size.
  3. Optional: stem, veins, names, the colour version or “Fill the sheet”.
  4. Download the PDF and print at 100% (Actual size); measure the check square. There is also an SVG (true size, for Cricut, Silhouette or laser cutters) and a 300 DPI PNG, one per sheet.
  5. Cut out the leaves and berries and put them together.

What you can use it for

  • Christmas cards, gift tags and place cards
  • Paper holly wreaths for doors and windows
  • Holly garlands for mantels and classrooms
  • Stencilled wrapping paper and cards (sponge paint)
  • Felt holly for ornaments and hair clips (trace the leaf)
  • Cutting practice with the dashed outline

Worked out by the tool with 4 mm gaps, the check square on the sheet and the stem on (the stem adds 9% to the length). Leaves longer than 8 in are tiled over several sheets.

Counted and measured by the tool. A bridge is the strip of card left between two holes, or between a hole and the edge; thin bridges tear, so wider is safer.

Frequently asked questions

How many spines does a holly leaf have?

Holly leaves vary a lot, so you choose: 2 to 7 spines on each side, plus the point at the tip. The default is 4 a side. The tool draws every leaf left-right symmetric, with curved edges between the spines.

How big are the berries?

In the sprig set and on their own, each berry is 22% of the leaf length across, so a 4 in leaf gets berries just under 1 in wide. On the wreath the berries are 6% of the ring diameter.

How do I make the wreath?

Choose “Wreath”, set the ring diameter (7 in by default) and how many leaves and berries you want (12 and 9 by default). Cut out the ring and its middle, then glue the leaves round it, overlapping, and add the berries in threes.

How does the garland strip work?

Each strip is one piece: leaves pointing up and down along a band, with a tab at the end. Fold the tab on the dashed line and glue it behind the next strip, and keep going until the garland is long enough.

How do I use the stencil?

Print it on card, cut out the black leaf and berry shapes with a craft knife (an adult job), tape it down and dab paint through it with a sponge. The tool measures the narrowest strip of card left between the holes.

How do I check the print is the right size?

Measure the check square on the first sheet: it must be exactly 1 in (or 2 cm with cm units) on each side. If it is smaller, print again at 100% or Actual size, not Fit to page.

Can I use it with a Cricut or Silhouette?

Yes. Download the SVG: it is true size in millimetres, with the cut lines on their own layer.

Can I sell things I make with these leaves?

The designs are our own drawings: you may use them and anything you make with them, including things you sell, with no credit needed.
