How do I compress an image to 1MB?
Drop the image in and click “Compress & download”. The target is preset to 1 MB, and the tool lowers quality and, if needed, dimensions until the file is under that size.
Will my file be exactly 1MB?
It will be just under 1 MB. The tool aims about 3% below the limit so the file passes upload checks whether a site counts 1 KB as 1,000 or 1,024 bytes.
What's the difference between 1MB and 1MB?
Sites count a megabyte as either 1,000 KB or 1,024 KB. The target aims about 3% below 1,000 KB, so the file passes either way.
Which format compresses smallest?
JPG (or WebP) reaches small sizes with the best quality for photos. PNG is lossless, so very small PNG targets mostly work by shrinking the image dimensions — switch the output to JPG if the result looks too small.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Compression happens entirely in your browser, so photos, IDs and signatures never leave your device.
