Norqain Brand Guidelines
Independence, backed.

Two constants: a red-and-slate palette and a sporty sans register. Abstract homage — not the Norqain watches.
Independence, backed
Norqain sells independence — with serious backing behind it.
Norqain is a lesson in a value as identity. Founded in 2018 in Nidau (near Biel/Bienne) by Ben Küffer, whose family is the majority shareholder, it is an independent Swiss brand with no conglomerate parent — but not a scrappy garage story.
Its identity is “independence,” expressed with startup energy in sporty, modern, rugged Swiss watches (the team’s average age is around thirty). The signature is individualization: a personalizable engraved caseback plate, plus mountain-peak engravings on the case screws. The collections all evoke the ethos — Adventure, Freedom and Independence — and the Wild ONE (within Independence) uses NORTEQ, a proprietary ultra-light carbon composite with a roughly 60% bio-based matrix, developed with Jean-Claude Biver and BIWI.
(Honest notes: “independent” is defensible — family-controlled, no group owner — but Norqain is far from unconnected: co-founders include Ted Schneider (whose family owned Breitling) and Mark Streit, and Jean-Claude Biver joined the board in 2022 (and is very much alive). Be precise on movements: the Kenissi-supplied NN20 is a manufacture caliber, while the NN08 is Sellita-based — not in-house. The material is NORTEQ, and there’s no official brand hex, so these tones are an unofficial interpretation.)
Colour
Norqain lives in a red-and-slate palette. Click a swatch to copy the hex.
Norqain’s identity is sporty, modern and bold — an ink, a Norqain red, a carbon, a slate, and a chalk. The palette pairs a bold red with a cool slate — the register of a sporty Swiss watch. It signals energy and adventure rather than tradition. The honest caveat: with no published brand hex, these tones are an original, unofficial interpretation, not first-party values.
The lesson is a bold red on a cool slate signals sporty modern energy. Norqain’s world is a rugged, individualized sports watch. For designers, it is a reminder that a cool base with one bold accent reads as energetic and modern — right for an “independence” brand. The takeaways: keep the base cool (slate, carbon); add one bold accent (red); make it personal (engraved caseback); and — because a bright red fails as small text — keep type dark and let the red live in the dial and band; treat any single hex as unofficial.
Typography
The register is a sporty sans — bold, modern, confident.
Norqain’s identity carries a bold, modern, confident spirit — startup energy and a value called independence. A sporty sans captures the mood: it is condensed and assertive, the register of a modern sports brand. Set in a red-and-slate palette, the sporty sans feels bold and modern — exactly the personality Norqain carries. It is confident rather than quiet, mirroring a rugged sports watch. (Norqain’s real watches and mountain-peak mark are works we describe but do not reproduce, and the exact typeface is not ours to use.) Because it is not ours to use, the honest description is “a sporty sans spirit,” shown here in a stand-in. The type behaves like the brand: bold, modern and confident.

A value as identity
Norqain stands for independence — and says so.
Norqain is a lesson in making a value the identity. A red-and-slate palette, a sporty sans and an individualized caseback make independence the whole brand — bold, modern, energetic. The value is the differentiator. The differentiator is an independence, individualized-sports identity.
For designers and brand-builders, Norqain offers a clear takeaway: name the value and let the product prove it. The lessons: encode the value in the collections (Adventure, Freedom, Independence); make it personal (engraved caseback, peak screws); invest in material (NORTEQ carbon); and be honest about the backing. It is also a reminder to stay accurate: it’s independent but well-backed, the NN20 is the manufacture caliber (the NN08 is Sellita-based), and the palette here is an unofficial interpretation. Norqain made a value the brand — proof that a stance, honestly backed, can be the difference.
