DwarfLab Brand Guidelines

Two constants: a pocket-cyan palette and a smart-sans register. Abstract homage — not a DwarfLab product or mark; no device, silhouette or logo is reproduced.
The pocket smart telescope
DwarfLab is the Hong Kong-registered, Shenzhen-built startup whose pocketable DWARF smart telescopes shoot the night sky and daylight wildlife alike.
DwarfLab brings the deep-sky round its smart-telescope node — a young startup whose pocket-sized device does the work of a telescope and a camera at once, for the night sky and the daytime field alike. It was founded in 2021 by a team of engineers, developers and astronomy enthusiasts; the company is registered in Hong Kong, with its research and manufacturing in Shenzhen, China. DwarfLab designs, builds and sells the devices, and its answer to a round about where telescopes are made is straightforward: a Hong Kong-registered brand, engineered and built in Shenzhen.
Its identity is the pocket smart telescope. The pocketable form factor, the day-and-night dual use and the crowdfunded rise are the story here. A telescope, pocket. The pocket smart telescope.
(Honest notes, so the origin and ownership are stated correctly. DwarfLab sells smart telescopes as its heroes — the DWARF II that launched on Kickstarter in late 2021, and the second-generation DWARF 3, a roughly one-and-a-third-kilogram, dual-lens device with a long telephoto and a wide-angle lens, 4K capture, alt-azimuth and equatorial modes, and app and NFC control at around five to six hundred US dollars — and we report its performance language as the brand’s own. On origin, a nuance that matters: the company is registered in Wan Chai, Hong Kong, not in Hangzhou or Shenzhen as one might assume, while its engineering and manufacturing are in Shenzhen, mainland China — so we say a Hong Kong-registered startup, engineered and built in Shenzhen. It is a private, independent company; its exact named founders are not authoritatively confirmed, so we keep the ownership description general. Its designs, the distinctive rectangular device form, the app interface and the logo are IP we describe but do not reproduce; there is no official brand hex; these tones are an unofficial interpretation.)
Colour
DwarfLab lives in a pocket cyan. Click a swatch to copy the hex.
DwarfLab’s identity is compact, smart and dual-use — a pocket cyan, an ink, a pale sky, a deep cyan, and a paper. The palette leans pocket cyan and pale sky: a bright, modern register that nods to a screen-controlled device and a clear sky rather than a loud logo colour. It signals a pocket smart telescope — portable, app-driven and equally at home on stars or wildlife. The honest caveat: with no published brand hex, these values are an original, unofficial interpretation, not first-party colours.
The lesson is a pocket cyan signals a compact, smart identity. DwarfLab’s world is a small device in a bag that turns a phone into an eyepiece, day or night. For designers, it is a reminder that a bright pocket cyan and a soft pale sky can carry a maker brand — a modern, digital tone held as colour, not a product shot. Because these tones can fail as small text, keep type dark and let the colour live in the accents, palette and band. The takeaways: date it to 2021; state the Hong Kong registration and Shenzhen manufacture; keep the ownership general; and treat any single hex as unofficial.
Typography
The register is a smart sans — compact, modern, digital.
DwarfLab’s identity carries a compact, modern, digital spirit — a smart-device startup, not a legacy optics house. A smart sans captures the mood: clean, geometric and confident, the register of a screen-controlled telescope you carry in a bag. Set in a pocket-cyan palette, the smart sans feels compact and modern — exactly the personality DwarfLab carries. It behaves like a made, digital thing rather than a loud logo, mirroring anodised metal and a phone screen. (DwarfLab’s real devices, the app and the logo are things we describe but do not reproduce, and the exact typeface is not ours to use.) Because it is not ours to use, the honest description is “a smart-sans brand,” shown here in a stand-in. The type behaves like the brand: compact, modern and digital.

The deep sky
DwarfLab stands for the pocket smart telescope.
DwarfLab brings the round its smart-telescope node. A pocket-cyan palette, a smart sans and a 2021 founding make one thing — the pocket smart telescope — the whole identity: compact, smart and dual-use. The pocketable form factor is the pitch, and the day-and-night use is the proof. The point is a young startup that put a telescope and a camera in the same pocket-sized device, in a round about where telescopes are made and how the category is changing.
Put to work, the identity is the brand told straight, origin stated correctly and ownership kept general. A maker in this spirit would date it to 2021, state the Hong Kong registration and Shenzhen manufacture, and keep the ownership general. A reader in this spirit would keep the facts right: DwarfLab sells smart telescopes as its heroes, led by the DWARF II and the DWARF 3; it was founded in 2021 by a team of engineers and enthusiasts; it is registered in Hong Kong and built in Shenzhen; and it is a private, independent company. DwarfLab sits among the round’s smart-telescope makers, after Explore Scientific. The honest editorial moves are to date it to 2021, to state the Hong Kong-plus-Shenzhen origin, to keep the founders general, and to describe the device rather than depict it.
For designers and brand-builders, DwarfLab continues the deep sky: let a form factor be the identity — and state origin precisely while keeping unverified ownership general. The lessons: build a brand on a genuinely new form factor; separate a registered headquarters from where a product is made; avoid asserting founders you cannot verify; describe a distinctive device rather than depict it; and never reproduce a logo. It is also a reminder to stay precise: DwarfLab is the Hong Kong-registered, Shenzhen-built startup whose pocketable DWARF smart telescopes shoot the night sky and daylight wildlife alike — with the palette here an unofficial interpretation. The hook is that pocketable dual use: a roughly one-and-a-third-kilogram device that works as both a night-sky astrophotography rig and a daytime wildlife or birding scope, carried off a runaway crowdfunding launch — the brand reports raising over one-and-a-half million US dollars from thousands of backers across Kickstarter and Indiegogo. Read that way, DwarfLab is less a telescope than a pocket instrument for two skies: compact, modern, digital. The lesson for a brand is that a new form factor and honest origins reinforce each other, and stating where things are made keeps the story earned. DwarfLab made the-pocket-smart-telescope the identity — proof that a form factor carries a round.
