The reorganized icon

Instant is the Instant Pot and Instant Vortex maker that went through Chapter 11 in 2023 and continues under new private-equity ownership.

Instant brings the round its icon node — the brand behind the Instant Pot, the multicooker that became a cultural phenomenon, and the Instant Vortex air fryers that extended it. Its answer to a round about who owns the air fryer and where it is made is a survival story: an iconic brand that filed for Chapter 11 in 2023, was sold, and continues under new ownership, made in China.

Its identity is the reorganized icon. The Instant Pot fame, the 2023 bankruptcy and the sale to a new owner are the story here. An air fryer, iconic. The reorganized icon.

(Honest notes, so the corporate history is framed accurately, because “Instant Pot went bankrupt and disappeared” is a common and wrong belief. Instant sells the Instant Pot multicooker and the Instant Vortex air fryers — including dual-basket VersaZone models and the Vortex Plus with a ClearCook window — as its heroes, and we report its language as the brand’s own. On the icon: the Instant Pot was invented by Robert Wang, whose company Double Insight was based in Ottawa, Canada, around 2009 to 2010, so the icon has Canadian invention roots, not a legacy American-appliance-house pedigree. On the corporate arc, the part that matters: Instant Brands was formed in 2019 by merging the Instant Pot company with Corelle Brands, backed by private equity; it filed for Chapter 11 in June 2023 under heavy debt; in the bankruptcy the appliances business — the Instant brand, including Instant Pot and the Vortex air fryers — was sold to an affiliate of the private-equity firm Centre Lane Partners, with the sale closing in November 2023, and later renamed to do business as Instant Pot Brands. The housewares side, Corelle and Pyrex, did not sell and stayed with a separate lender-owned entity. So the brand survived via sale and is trading; the group split in two. On where it is made: China. Its designs, the Instant and Instant Pot names and the Instant Pot silhouette are IP we describe but do not reproduce; these tones are an unofficial interpretation.)

Colour

Instant lives in a multicooker maroon. Click a swatch to copy the hex.

Instant’s identity is iconic, resilient and reorganized — a multicooker maroon, an ink, a pale clay, a deep oxblood, and a paper. The palette leans multicooker maroon and pale clay: a warm, kitchen-counter register that nods to a beloved cooking icon rather than a loud logo colour. It signals the reorganized icon — iconic, resilient and reorganized. The honest caveat: with no adopted brand hex, these values are an original, unofficial interpretation, not first-party colours.

The lesson is a multicooker maroon signals an iconic, resilient identity. Instant’s world is a countertop icon that survived a bankruptcy. For designers, it is a reminder that a warm multicooker maroon and a soft pale clay can carry a hardware brand — an icon tone held as colour, not a product shot. Because these tones can fail as small text, keep type dark and let the colour live in the accents, palette and band. The takeaways: correct the “disappeared” myth; date the Chapter 11 to 2023; name Centre Lane as the new owner; credit the Canadian invention; and place manufacturing in China.

Typography

The register is an icon serif — iconic, resilient, reorganized.

Instant’s identity carries an iconic, resilient, reorganized spirit — a household name that came through restructuring, not a fragile startup. An icon serif captures the mood: confident, familiar and warm, the register of a brand everyone recognises. Set in a multicooker-maroon palette, the icon serif feels iconic and resilient — exactly the personality Instant carries. It behaves like a made, functional thing rather than a loud logo, mirroring a convection swirl and a heat shimmer. (Instant’s real products and the names are things we describe but do not reproduce, and the exact typeface is not ours to use.) Because it is not ours to use, the honest description is “an icon-serif brand,” shown here in a stand-in. The type behaves like the brand: iconic, resilient and reorganized.

The air fryer

Instant stands for the reorganized icon.

Instant brings the round its icon node. A multicooker-maroon palette, an icon serif and a survival arc make one thing — the reorganized icon — the whole identity: iconic, resilient and reorganized. The Instant Pot fame is the pitch, and the survival through bankruptcy is the twist. The point is an icon that filed for Chapter 11 and lived, in a round about who owns the air fryer and where it is made.

Put to work, the identity is the brand told straight, the myth corrected and the ownership dated. A brand in this spirit would correct the “disappeared” myth, date the Chapter 11 to 2023, and name Centre Lane as owner. A reader in this spirit would keep the facts right: Instant sells the Instant Pot and Instant Vortex air fryers as heroes; the Instant Pot was invented by Robert Wang in Canada; Instant Brands filed Chapter 11 in June 2023; the appliances brand was sold to a Centre Lane affiliate and continues as Instant Pot Brands; and it is made in China. Instant sits second in the round, after Cosori. The honest editorial moves are to correct the myth, to date the bankruptcy, to name Centre Lane, to credit the Canadian invention, and to place manufacturing in China.

For designers and brand-builders, Instant continues the air fryer: let an icon carry a brand through restructuring — and tell the bankruptcy honestly. The lessons: a genuinely iconic product can outlive the company that owned it; a brand can pass through Chapter 11 and a sale and keep trading, so “went bankrupt” is not the same as “disappeared”; corporate groups split, so the appliances and the housewares can end up under different owners; and credit an invention’s real origin rather than assume a legacy pedigree. It is also a reminder to stay precise: Instant is the Instant Pot and Instant Vortex maker that went through Chapter 11 in 2023 and continues under new private-equity ownership — with the palette here an unofficial interpretation. The hook is that survival: the Instant Pot was so iconic that even after its parent filed for bankruptcy in 2023, the brand was bought and carried on, its air fryers still on shelves, while the Pyrex and Corelle side went to a different owner entirely — an icon strong enough to survive the company around it. Read that way, Instant is less a casualty than a reorganized icon: iconic, resilient, reorganized. The lesson for a brand is that an icon and an honest restructuring story reinforce each other, and correcting the “disappeared” myth keeps the story earned. Instant made the-reorganized-icon the identity — proof that an icon can carry a round through a crisis.

Editorial reference. This article reports publicly documented facts about Instant’s visual identity as design commentary; it is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, Instant, Instant Brands, Instant Pot Brands or Centre Lane Partners. The Instant and Instant Pot names and their designs are IP of their owners — the graphics here are original abstract homages (colour discs and convection-swirl / heat-shimmer texture swatches); no cooker, air fryer, the Instant Pot silhouette or logo is reproduced, and all specimen text is set in a Google-Font stand-in. Facts reported: Instant makes the Instant Pot multicooker and the Instant Vortex air fryers (dual-basket VersaZone models; Vortex Plus with ClearCook); the Instant Pot was invented by Robert Wang (Double Insight, Ottawa, Canada) around 2009–2010; Instant Brands was formed in 2019 (merging Instant Pot with Corelle Brands, PE-backed) and filed Chapter 11 in June 2023; the appliances business (the Instant brand, incl. Instant Pot and Vortex) was sold to an affiliate of Centre Lane Partners (closed November 2023) and now does business as Instant Pot Brands, while the Corelle/Pyrex housewares stayed with a separate lender-owned entity; it is made in China. Honest notes: ⚠ “Instant Pot went bankrupt and disappeared” is wrong — the brand survived the sale and is trading; ⚠ the 2023 Chapter 11 split the group in two; ⚠ Instant Pot has Canadian invention roots, not a legacy US-appliance pedigree; the Instant/Instant Pot/Vortex/VersaZone marks and the Instant Pot silhouette are protected. No official brand hex is used, so the tones here are an unofficial interpretation.
