Meindl Brand Guidelines
Bavarian, since 1928.

Two constants: a leather-brown-and-loden palette and a heritage slab register. Abstract homage — not the Meindl footwear.
Bavarian leather
Meindl has made leather boots in one Bavarian village for centuries.
Meindl is a lesson in craft heritage as identity. The Meindl family has made shoes in Kirchanschöring, Bavaria, since 1683; the modern company was founded in 1928 by Lukas Meindl Sr. and is now run by the eleventh generation, Lukas and Lars Meindl. It remains family-owned and still made in Germany.
Its identity is premium leather craftsmanship — full-grain and nubuck hiking and hunting boots built on Meindl’s own comfort lasts, wrapped in a 300-year Bavarian “made in Germany” story. The most ownable technical cues are the Comfort Fit wide last and the MFS Memory Foam System, an ankle cuff that molds to the foot with body heat. The chunky, stitched-leather look is the recognizable one, across models named for expeditions and capability — Bhutan (the flagship), Island, Perfekt, Vakuum.
(Honest notes: “since 1683” is the family’s shoemaking lineage, not the company — the firm dates to 1928. The same Meindl family also makes traditional Trachten leather clothing, run as a related branch, so treat the boot company and the fashion label as sister operations rather than one entity. We don’t assert an edelweiss logo (unverified), and there’s no official brand hex, so these tones are an unofficial interpretation.)
Colour
Meindl lives in a leather-brown-and-loden palette. Click a swatch to copy the hex.
Meindl’s identity is heritage, crafted and Bavarian — an ink, a leather brown, a loden green, a nubuck tan, and a cream. The palette pairs a leather brown with a loden green — the register of a Bavarian boot workshop. It signals craft and the Alps rather than fashion. The honest caveat: with no published brand hex, these tones are an original, unofficial interpretation, not first-party values.
The lesson is a leather brown with a loden green signals Bavarian craft. Meindl’s world is a stitched-leather boot. For designers, it is a reminder that a warm, earthy palette reads as crafted and heritage — right for a centuries-old maker. The takeaways: source the palette from the material (leather, nubuck, loden); keep it warm and traditional; let the craft lead (the last, the stitching); and treat any single hex as unofficial.
Typography
The register is a heritage slab — sturdy, warm, traditional.
Meindl’s identity carries a sturdy, warm, traditional spirit — leather craft and Bavarian heritage. A heritage slab captures the mood: it is solid and grounded, the register of a workshop. Set in a leather-brown-and-loden palette, the heritage slab feels sturdy and warm — exactly the personality Meindl carries. It is traditional rather than trend-driven, mirroring a stitched-leather boot. (Meindl’s real footwear is work we describe but do not reproduce, and the exact typeface is not ours to use.) Because it is not ours to use, the honest description is “a heritage slab spirit,” shown here in a stand-in. The type behaves like the brand: sturdy, warm and traditional.

Craft heritage as identity
Meindl stands for a leather boot made the old way.
Meindl is a lesson in making craft heritage the identity. A leather-brown-and-loden palette, a heritage slab and a stitched-leather boot make Bavarian craft the whole brand — sturdy, warm, traditional. The craft is the differentiator. The differentiator is a leather-craftsmanship identity.
For designers and brand-builders, Meindl offers a clear takeaway: let deep craft be the whole story. The lessons: keep the making close (still made in Germany); build the comfort in (the last, the MFS); name for capability (Bhutan, Perfekt); and be honest about the heritage. It is also a reminder to stay accurate: 1683 is the lineage and 1928 the company, the fashion label is a sister line, and the palette here is an unofficial interpretation. Meindl made craft heritage the brand — proof that centuries of making can be the difference.
