The colourful sofa.

Two constants: a coral-and-teal palette and a playful sans register. Abstract homage — not a Sancal sofa or wordmark.
The colourful sofa
Sancal makes playful, colourful upholstered seating in Yecla, Spain.
Sancal is a lesson in a family and its colour as the identity. A Spanish maker in Yecla — Spain’s furniture town — it builds playful, colourful upholstered sofas and chairs, made in its own factories, with a bright, textile-led sensibility shaped by two generations of one family. A sofa, made a burst of colour.
Its identity is the colourful sofa. Sancal’s playful, colourful upholstery is the work it is known for. A family, made a signature. A maker that treats colour as a language.
(Honest notes, so the story stays precise. Sancal was founded in 1973 by Santiago Castaño — not, as sometimes said, an “Aparicio” family — with his brother Pepe and his wife Concha, and it is now led by the second generation, his daughters Esther and Elena Castaño. Everything is genuinely made in Spain, in-house across two factories in Yecla, in the Murcia region. Its identity is playful and colourful, built through collaborations with designers such as Note Design Studio, Sebastian Herkner and Sylvain Willenz. Its designs and name are its IP, described but never reproduced, and there is no official brand hex — these tones are an unofficial interpretation. This is design commentary and does not promote any product.)
Colour
Sancal lives in a coral-and-teal palette. Click a swatch to copy the hex.
Sancal’s identity is playful, warm and colourful — a coral, an ink, a mustard, a teal, and a cream. The palette leans coral and teal: the register of confident, joyful colour. It signals playfulness and character over restraint. The honest caveat: with no published brand hex, these values are an original, unofficial interpretation, not first-party colours.
The lesson is a coral-and-teal palette signals a playful, colourful identity. Sancal’s world is a joyful, colourful, made-in-Spain object. For designers, it is a reminder that confident colour can carry a brand built on personality — the coral and teal of a maker unafraid of joy. Because these tones can fail as small text, keep type dark and let the colour live in the accents, palette and band. The takeaways: use colour boldly; keep it in the family; make it at home; and treat any single hex as unofficial.
Typography
The register is a playful sans — warm, friendly, confident.
Sancal’s identity carries a warm, friendly, confident spirit — a joyful object, not a severe one. A playful sans captures the mood: rounded, friendly and open, the register of colourful upholstered seating. Set in a coral-and-teal palette, the playful sans feels warm and friendly — exactly the personality Sancal carries. It is confident rather than cautious, mirroring a colourful, characterful sofa. (Sancal’s real sofas and wordmark are things we describe but do not reproduce, and the exact typeface is not ours to use.) Because it is not ours to use, the honest description is “a playful-sans spirit,” shown here in a stand-in. The type behaves like the maker: warm, friendly and confident.

A family and its colour as identity
Sancal stands for the colourful sofa.
Sancal is a lesson in making a family and its colour the identity. A coral-and-teal palette, a playful sans and colourful upholstery make joy the whole maker — warm, friendly and confident. The colour is the differentiator. The differentiator is a genuine sensibility — a family that builds playful, colourful seating and isn’t afraid of joy — made in its own Spanish factories.
Put to work, the identity is colour as design. A maker building in this spirit would let colour and playfulness be a real point of view, keep the making at home in the family, and work with strong designers, so the customer buys into character rather than neutrality. It would treat joy as a legitimate design value, so that a colourful sofa is a considered choice. It would pass the sensibility from one generation to the next, so that the character endures. The lesson Sancal teaches is that a family sensibility plus colour can build a brand: the colour gives it personality, and the Spanish making gives it substance. The colour is the personality, and the making is the proof.
For designers and brand-builders, Sancal offers a clear takeaway: make colour a point of view. The lessons: use colour boldly; keep it in the family; make it at home; and be accurate about the story. It is also a reminder to stay precise: Sancal is a family-owned Spanish maker founded in 1973 by Santiago Castaño, now led by his daughters, building colourful upholstered seating in Yecla, Murcia — with the palette here an unofficial interpretation. Sancal made the colourful sofa the maker — proof that colour can be the difference.
