Tai Ping Brand Guidelines
The custom carpet.
Aa
Two constants: a jade-and-gold palette and a luxe serif register. Abstract homage — not a Tai Ping carpet or wordmark.
The custom carpet
Tai Ping makes bespoke luxury carpets, hand-tufted in China and hand-knotted in Nepal.
Tai Ping is a lesson in bespoke luxury as the identity. A Hong Kong carpet house, it makes ultra-luxury, made-to-order carpets — hand-tufted in its own factory in China and hand-knotted in Nepal — for elite homes, hotels, jets and yachts. A carpet, made bespoke to the room.
Its identity is the custom carpet. Tai Ping’s bespoke luxury carpets, and its concierge design service, are the work it is known for. A commission, made a signature. A house that weaves to order.
(Honest notes, so the story stays precise. Tai Ping was founded in Hong Kong in 1956 by the Kadoorie brothers as a philanthropic venture to create jobs and preserve handmade carpet craft; it remains a going concern, listed on the Hong Kong stock exchange. On where it makes we are precise: its hand-tufted carpets are made in its own factory in Xiamen, China, and its hand-knotted rugs are woven in Nepal — Hong Kong is its corporate and design home, not its loom. It also owns the American house Edward Fields and the French La Manufacture Cogolin, whose rugs are still woven in Cogolin, France. We drop the unverified “1839” label. Its designs and name are its IP, described but never reproduced, and there is no official brand hex — these tones are an unofficial interpretation. This is design commentary and does not promote any product.)
Colour
Tai Ping lives in a jade-and-gold palette. Click a swatch to copy the hex.
Tai Ping’s identity is luxurious, deep and bespoke — a jade, an ink, a silk gold, a charcoal, and a chalk. The palette leans jade and gold: the register of a deep jewel tone and the sheen of silk. It signals luxury and craft over show. The honest caveat: with no published brand hex, these values are an original, unofficial interpretation, not first-party colours.
The lesson is a jade-and-gold palette signals a luxurious, bespoke identity. Tai Ping’s world is a rich, custom, high-craft object. For designers, it is a reminder that a deep jade and a silk gold can carry a brand built on luxury — the jade of a jewel and the gold of silk. Because these tones can fail as small text, keep type dark and let the colour live in the accents, palette and band. The takeaways: make it bespoke; weave to order; be honest about where; and treat any single hex as unofficial.
Typography
The register is a luxe serif — elegant, deep, bespoke.
Tai Ping’s identity carries an elegant, deep, bespoke spirit — a luxury object, not a plain one. A luxe serif captures the mood: high-contrast, refined and rich, the register of a made-to-order carpet. Set in a jade-and-gold palette, the luxe serif feels elegant and deep — exactly the personality Tai Ping carries. It is bespoke rather than mass, mirroring a custom, hand-tufted carpet. (Tai Ping’s real carpets and wordmark are things we describe but do not reproduce, and the exact typeface is not ours to use.) Because it is not ours to use, the honest description is “a luxe-serif spirit,” shown here in a stand-in. The type behaves like the maker: elegant, deep and bespoke.

Bespoke luxury as identity
Tai Ping stands for the custom carpet.
Tai Ping is a lesson in making bespoke luxury the identity. A jade-and-gold palette, a luxe serif and made-to-order carpets make custom craft the whole maker — luxurious, deep and bespoke. The bespoke is the differentiator. The differentiator is a genuine capability — weaving one-off, made-to-measure carpets by hand for the world’s most demanding rooms, from a house born to create craft jobs.
Put to work, the identity is a commission as design. A maker building in this spirit would weave to order rather than to stock, keep a concierge design service at the centre, and be honest about where its craft is done, so the customer buys into a made-to-measure object rather than a product. It would let heritage lines — an American house, a French loom — sit under one roof, so that craft is collected. It would name its factories plainly, so that luxury and honesty coexist. The lesson Tai Ping teaches is that bespoke luxury can build a brand: the custom craft gives it exclusivity, and the honest making gives it integrity. The bespoke is the personality, and the making is the proof.
For designers and brand-builders, Tai Ping offers a clear takeaway: make it bespoke and be honest about where. The lessons: weave to order; keep the design service; name the factories; and be accurate about the story. It is also a reminder to stay precise: Tai Ping is a Hong Kong carpet house founded in 1956, hand-tufting in Xiamen, China and hand-knotting in Nepal, with a French heritage loom in Cogolin — with the palette here an unofficial interpretation. Tai Ping made the custom carpet the maker — proof that bespoke luxury can be the difference.
