Autonomous Brand Guidelines
The value standing desk.

Two constants: a value-blue palette and a value-sans register. Abstract homage — not an Autonomous product or mark; no desk, chair or logo is reproduced.
The value standing desk
Autonomous is the value direct-to-consumer brand that made its name by dropping the AI, selling China-made standing desks online at a fraction of premium prices.
Autonomous brings the standing-desk round its value node — the online-only challenger that undercut the premium brands on price, and whose name is a fossil of a very different original idea. It was founded in 2014 by Duy Huynh and reached the public through crowdfunding in 2015; its dot-ai name comes from an early plan for an intelligent, self-adjusting desk. Autonomous makes and sells the gear, and its answer to a round about where standing desks are made is direct: designed with a Vietnam operations base, manufactured by Chinese factories.
Its identity is the value standing desk. The aggressive value pricing, the direct-to-consumer model and the pivot away from AI are the story here. A desk, value. The value standing desk.
(Honest notes, so the manufacture and the reputation are framed accurately. Autonomous sells desks as its heroes — the SmartDesk Core and SmartDesk Pro electric standing desks at prices well below the premium field, plus the ErgoChair — and we report its performance language as the brand’s own. It is privately held and lightly venture-backed, still led by founder Duy Huynh; its headquarters is in New York, with a major operations and design office in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. On where it is made, a point to keep precise: its desks are manufactured by Chinese contract manufacturers, with Vietnam serving as a design and operations base rather than the factory, so we do not say the desks are made in Vietnam. On reputation, reported factually: alongside strong value ratings, there are recurring durability and shipping-timeline complaints, so we frame it as value pricing with variable quality-control and fulfillment feedback, and we invent no labor allegations. Its designs and the Autonomous, SmartDesk and ErgoChair names are IP we describe but do not reproduce; there is no official brand hex; these tones are an unofficial interpretation.)
Colour
Autonomous lives in a value blue. Click a swatch to copy the hex.
Autonomous’ identity is value, direct and online — a value blue, an ink, a pale periwinkle, a deep indigo, and a paper. The palette leans value blue and pale periwinkle: a clean, digital register that nods to a direct-to-consumer web brand rather than a loud logo colour. It signals a value standing desk — affordable, online and priced to undercut. The honest caveat: with no published brand hex, these values are an original, unofficial interpretation, not first-party colours.
The lesson is a value blue signals a direct, online identity. Autonomous’ world is an affordable desk bought from a website rather than a showroom. For designers, it is a reminder that a clean value blue and a soft pale periwinkle can carry a maker brand — a digital tone held as colour, not a product shot. Because these tones can fail as small text, keep type dark and let the colour live in the accents, palette and band. The takeaways: date it to 2014; credit Duy Huynh; state the China-made, Vietnam-ops reality; report the mixed feedback factually; and treat any single hex as unofficial.
Typography
The register is a value sans — direct, digital, affordable.
Autonomous’ identity carries a direct, digital, affordable spirit — an online value brand, not a showroom house. A value sans captures the mood: clean, modern and plain, the register of a product sold on price online. Set in a value-blue palette, the value sans feels direct and digital — exactly the personality Autonomous carries. It behaves like a made, functional thing rather than a loud logo, mirroring laminate and a steel frame. (Autonomous’ real desks, chairs and names are things we describe but do not reproduce, and the exact typeface is not ours to use.) Because it is not ours to use, the honest description is “a value-sans brand,” shown here in a stand-in. The type behaves like the brand: direct, digital and affordable.

The standing desk
Autonomous stands for the value standing desk.
Autonomous brings the round its value node. A value-blue palette, a value sans and a 2014 founding make one thing — the value standing desk — the whole identity: value, direct and online. The aggressive pricing is the pitch, and the direct-to-consumer model is the proof. The point is the online challenger that undercut the premium field, in a round about where standing desks are made and who competes on price.
Put to work, the identity is the brand told straight, manufacture kept precise and feedback reported factually. A maker in this spirit would date it to 2014, credit Duy Huynh, and state the China-made, Vietnam-ops reality. A reader in this spirit would keep the facts right: Autonomous sells desks as its heroes, led by the SmartDesk range; it was founded in 2014 by Duy Huynh and reached the public through 2015 crowdfunding; it is privately held and lightly venture-backed, headquartered in New York with a Vietnam operations base; and its desks are made by Chinese contract manufacturers. Autonomous sits fourth in the round, after Vari. The honest editorial moves are to date it to 2014, to keep the China-made, Vietnam-ops distinction precise, to report the mixed feedback factually, and to note the AI pivot.
For designers and brand-builders, Autonomous continues the standing desk: compete on value honestly — and keep design-base and factory-country distinct. The lessons: win on price with a direct model; separate where a product is designed from where it is manufactured; report mixed reviews factually rather than hide them; keep a legacy name in context; and never reproduce a logo. It is also a reminder to stay precise: Autonomous is the value direct-to-consumer brand that made its name by dropping the AI, selling China-made standing desks online at a fraction of premium prices — with the palette here an unofficial interpretation. The hook is that pivot: Autonomous launched on a pitch for an intelligent desk that learns when you should stand, found the smart features did not fit the mass market, and made its name by dropping the AI and winning on price instead — China-made standing desks sold direct online, with the dot-ai name a fossil of the original dream. Read that way, Autonomous is less a desk than a price: direct, digital, affordable. The lesson for a brand is that value and honest framing reinforce each other, and keeping the manufacture straight keeps the story earned. Autonomous made the-value-standing-desk the identity — proof that value carries a round.
